Adult Literacy: Changing Lives Through Education

Since 1977, the YMCA of Greater New Orleans Adult Literacy Program has empowered adults to build brighter futures through free instruction in reading, writing, math, English as a Second Language (ESL), and High School Equivalency (HiSET) preparation.

The need is great. One in four adults in the Greater New Orleans area struggle with literacy skills that many of us take for granted—making it difficult to find stable employment, advance their careers, manage daily tasks, or help their children succeed in school. The YMCA provides a welcoming, supportive environment where every adult has the opportunity to learn, grow, and achieve their goals.
