Although fundraising is not required to participate in the Bug Light 5K, we encourage and hope that you might help us raise additional funds for the South Portland Historical Society. For 2018, we have set up a goal of raising $5,000, with these specific funds set aside for our museum expansion. ***REGISTRATION FEE WAIVED - if you set up a fundraising page and raise a minimum of $100, you can receive a refund of your race registration fee.*** The South Portland Historical Society collects and preserves local history, and provides education to people of all ages through programs, lectures, its museum at Bug Light Park, and its Online Museum and Research Library. The Society is currently working with the City of South Portland to obtain approval for museum use of the land adjacent to the current museum. When that approval is obtained (from both the State and Federal government) the Society will proceed with its plans for a museum expansion.
