This year our event is also paying tribute to and honoring the life of Dawn Jordan, a young local woman who courageously battled cancer after being diagnosed weeks after giving birth to her 3rd beautiful son, and left behind her husband and 3 young kids who love her endlessly. Dawn's outrageous humor, radiant smile, and contagious laugh made her like a magnet; people were just drawn to her. Once you met her, you were stuck. Dawn was a hardworking fourth grade teacher and absolutely loved going to work every day. She was always looking for new and creative ways to reach and teach her students and she was the kind of teacher parents requested. Reading was her passion, and her love of books was evident both in and out of the classroom. Even more than her love of teaching was her love for her family. She and her husband, Casey, built a life together and planted their roots in Howell, MI before welcoming three boys into their lives: Tyler, Owen, and Cullen. Dawn was a fun loving and patient mom. She loved those boys fiercely and, just like in her teaching, always had fun projects and games for them to do. When Cullen was just five weeks old, Dawn was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer and was given 3-6 months to live. Instead of laying down and surrendering, Dawn gave it her all and fought so hard, but in early August, was called home. Before she left, she recorded herself reading books to the boys and painstakingly wrote out birthday cards for each boy for the next 18 years. While Dawn is surely watching over her boys from above, let’s help the best way we can here on Earth.
This year, your support in participating and donating through this event will not only support Fund a Life's mission, but Dawn's family has been awarded a Grant from Fund a Life and a portion of this year's proceeds will support the education fund for Tyler, Owen, and Cullen Jordan, a cause near and dear to Dawn’s heart in honor of her beautiful life!
