Description

TRI on the 4th of July is back for its second year!

All proceeds received will be donated to Pretty Lake Camp!

For over a 100 years, Pretty Lake Camp has been enriching the lives of thousands of youth by offering a safe, structured and encouraging environment in a natural setting. Many of the children who attend Pretty Lake Camp face significant challenges at home, in school, and in their community. They strive to remove all barriers that prevent a child from being able to come to camp. Pretty Lake’s mission is to provide adventure education and outdoor experiences that change lives and improve the community.

Race Details:

Pretty Lake Camp is the scene for this triathlon event.  We are offering a choice of Sprint Triathlon, Sprint Dualthlon, Sprint AquaBike or Sprint Relay race.  The camp is surrounded by Pretty Lake and the Pretty Lake Nature Preserve, 40 acres of forest and nature. Compete in a 500m swim in the clear waters of Pretty Lake, 20k bike road route through rural Texas Township, Michigan and a 5k trail run throughout the nature trails of Pretty Lake Camp. Parking, the transition area, finish line, and post-race festivities are all located in the campgrounds of the camp, closed to traffic.

500 Meter Swim CourseThe swim takes place in Pretty Lake and offers a unique course that is a point to point swim. The swim start is located ½ mile away from transition and takes 7 to 10 minutes to walk to. The walk is down a two track trail that follows the lake front, it’s a beautiful journey. The swim is an L shape, starting at the Outback Beach and ending at the Boathouse Beach. If it is a sunny day, make sure tinted goggles are used, for the first leg of the swim is into the sunrise. Coming out of the water your will climb a flight of stairs then you will have a short run on grass into transition. The swim is clear and clean. This lake lives up to its name!

20K (ride with traffic) Bike Course:  This course is easy to navigate with all right turns which takes you in a large rectangle. From transition, you will ride down the camp entrance then take a right turn onto Q Avenue which takes you over a few rolling hills and to the main intersection of Texas Corners. At this intersection you will take a right turn onto 8th Street. This stretch of course is nice and flat, but beware of the hills to come at your next turn. You will take a right turn onto RS Avenue.  Then at the 4 way stop, you will turn left onto 6th st, then when the road comes to a T, you will make a right on S.  S Avenue will dead end into 22nd St (also know as VanKal) at which you will make your next right turn.  22nd St (also known as VanKal Avenue) offers a long steady climb with a couple of down and up hills before having to make a right turn onto Q Avenue. Q Avenue will lead you back to the camp entrance and transition where you started. This course offers a great mix of riding.

Sprint 5K (on the campgrounds) Trail Run Course : Marked with White Discs The course is fully contained within Pretty Lake Camp grounds and is a trail/path run with the majority of the course being shaded. The first part of the run starts out nice and flat, allowing everyone to get their legs after the bike ride. After running through the meadow at the farm and down a two track dirt road, the course begins to get challenging. For the next lag, the trail will be up and down through the woods with some steep climbs and descents, be sure to watch your footing. After this tough section you will end up on the two tracks that took everyone to the swim/duathlon start. This section takes you over a few small hills and to the finish! If there is anything left in the tank, this last two track section can be fast. This is a beautiful and challenging run course surrounded by nature.

Duathlon is marked with orange cones
