Runner’s Choice Trail Run

Our Mission

Founded in 1968, Columbia Track Club is a dedicated nonprofit organization and proud member of USA Track & Field, committed to promoting health, fitness, and fun through distance running and race-walking for all ages. Our mission is to foster a supportive community that encourages individual improvement, embraces competition, and provides accessible events that enhance the athletic experience for both recreational and competitive athletes. We aim to inspire a lifelong love for running while giving back to the community through youth programs and charitable initiatives.

Columbia Track Club History

Founded in November 1968 by Bill Clark, then Director of Recreation for the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department, CTC was born out of a desire to provide structured running and race-walking opportunities. After announcing a meeting in the Columbia Daily Tribune, ten enthusiastic individuals gathered to form the club, emphasizing fitness for all through distance running.

CTC quickly established itself as a prominent organization, incorporating as a nonprofit and creating bylaws to govern its activities. The primary objective was to offer a year-round program of distance running and race walking, focusing on individual improvement while encouraging competition. This mission continues today, highlighted by significant events like the Heart of America Marathon, which celebrated its 60th running in 2019.

In 1974, CTC made a pivotal decision to launch a Youth Program for children aged 3-18. This initiative provided summer track meets, fostering a love for running among the youth. The program has evolved but remains true to its roots, offering a variety of events each summer at an accessible fee.

In 2001, CTC donated a water fountain to the MKT trailhead at Scott Boulevard. Over the years, CTC has also given a helping hand to several hospitals and charitable organizations. Mid-Missouri Fisher House has been a Charity Partner of the Heart of America Marathon since 2020. The Heart of America Marathon Friends of Mid-MO Fisher House Fund was established in 2022 through the Community Foundation of Central Missouri, partnering to manage scholarships for both CTC and Blue Thunder Track Club members.

Today, CTC continues to support local initiatives and community wellness, demonstrating its enduring commitment to promoting health and fitness through running.
