Description

Hello and Welcome to the First Annual Weetock Trail race!  The race will be held in Jones County, North Carolina on the Weetock Trail in the Croatan National Forest. The race will be directed by the Fast Fox Running Company.  The Weetock Trail is one of eastern North Carolina’s little known jewels, and the is designed to bring attention to the trail and the natural woodlands of the Croatan. Be ready for a great race in beautiful woods and we have some really cool awards, including engraved machetes!

About the race:

The Weetock Trail Race will be 13.1 miles long on a well-marked amid the white oaks, hardwoods and pines of the Croatan National Forest.

Runners will immediately appreciate the organization of the event, a start and finish in the same area, the placement of well-stocked manned and un-manned aid stations approximately every two miles, handcrafted and meaningful awards, and nourishing food at the finish, including soup, fruit, breads. Limited parking is available near the race start, with additional parking along the highway. More direction will be given on parking as soon as possible make sure we get a good email and contact number for you because we will update you!

4 manned and un-manned aid stations will be stocked with water, sports drinks, and light snacks.  Suggestions or requests for aid station items may be submitted to the race director at fastfoxrunningco@gmail.com up to one week prior to the event.  Aid stations will be located approximately every two to three miles along the course.

Awards:

Awards will be made by Fast Fox Running Co as well as local artisans and will be worthy to display proudly as a unique piece in any runner’s award collection. NO CHEESY AWARDS that are made in some far off place will ever be given out by Fast Fox Running Company we are Americans and believe in keeping things local.

Ø  Every finisher will receive a handcrafted finisher’s award, designed and created locally and presented to each finisher at the finish line.  We won’t show you these until you cross the line! Each competetitor will also recieve a Technical T-Shirt with Race Logo as well.

PLEASE EMAIL US YOUR SHIRT SIZE AFTER YOU REGISTER!!!  fastfoxrunningco@gmail.com additional shirts will be $15.00.

We worked hard to bring you a great race and we respect every runner’s effort, we ask that all you fast people do the same and support the other runners who will gladly clap for you! Haha :-) That being said we will have the awards ceremony in a timely manner. We want everyone to hang out after the race for a little while and share stories but we all gotta go home some time.

Ø  In the master’s category (age 50 and up), the top male and female master runner will each receive an engraved machete and a gift certificate to a Swansboro area restaurant.

Ø  Three Director’s Choice awards (for unannounced categories) will be awarded by the race director during the awards ceremony.  All runners are encouraged to stay for the awards ceremony in case a Director’s Choice award is presented to you!

Support:

There will be aid stations approximately every 3 miles along the course.  Due to the remote nature of some sections of trail, runners will be asked to carry a cell phone if possible during the race in case assistance is required.  We will have a few fanny packs if you forget yours! Each aid station will have communication capabilities with the race staff and medical support personnel. We hope to have a paramedic available for emergencies. As a trail race of substantial distance in natural forest, runners are required to be fit enough and alert enough to successfully navigate the course. The Weetock isn’t a mountain race but it’s no cake walk either IT WILL SURPRISE YOU! Be prepared because there are some hills! If you have questions about the course email us at fastfoxrunningco@gmail.com

Finish Area:

Food, drinks, music and entertainment will be available at the finish area at the St James AME ZION Church on highway 58.  Runners are encouraged to stay for the awards ceremony, which will begin as soon as practically possible based on the finish times of the bulk of the racers.  The award ceremony will likely start between 4 and 5 hours after the start of the race.  Out of respect to volunteers and other users of the Croatan, runners must be able to complete the race in no more than 6 hours. Exceptions to this will be entertained on a case by case basis. Email us at fastfoxrunningco@gmailcom if you would like special consideration to the 6 hour cutoff. Be patient this is the first time a race has ever been done on the Weetock and we can only estimate how long things are going to take!

Packet pick up:

Packets will be available for pick-up on Friday evening from 5:00 to 9:00PM at a place we will determine in Swansboro, North Carolina. Packets will also be available at 5:40 AM on the day of race until 6:40 AM.  Runners are encouraged to arrive early.
