Oral cancer is the only cancer to NOT have an increase 5-year survival rate in the pas three decades. Patients diagnosed with oral cancer have approximately 50% chance of survival at 5 years. The percentage is so low because oral cancer is discovered in later stages.
Pharar Foundation was founded by UNLV alumni Dr. Jessica Pharar. After attending UNLV School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Pharar completed her optional dental residency at Texas A&M College of Dentistry. Shortly after Dr. Pharar left for her residency, her father was diagnosed with a very aggressive type of brain cancer. When her family began hospice care for her father, she moved back to California to be apart of his full-time caregiver team. After his untimely passing, Dr. Pharar returned to her residency program with a new mission - to improve the quality of life of cancer patients by providing compassionate dental care. Her experience with her father made her a true advocate for cancer patients and she began focusing her practice to treating cancer patients. She sought out to improve care for cancer patients and help ensure that they have a much richer quality of life, before, during and after their treatment.
Throughout Dr. Pharar's professional career, she realized that dental care for cancer patients and other medically complex patients is generally neglected, simply because many dental providers are not comfortable treating these patients. Dr. Pharar's personal and professional experiences, including opening her own dental practice, motivated her to start the Pharar Foundation, a dental care foundation in Las Vegas, NV that treats cancer patients as well as patients with organ transplants and chronic conditions. Her passion and dedication, combined with additional, specialized training allows her and the doctors at the Pharar Foundation to be comfortable and compassionate managing these patients.
