Light a Candle for Literacy (LACFL) is an after-school and summer literacy program based on Syracuse’s Southside in the Brighton neighborhood and serves school-age youth in Kindergarten-5th grade. Our program operates daily after school from 3 to 5 p.m. and focuses on reading, homework help, and character development. We also operate an annual 6-week summer program.
LACFL is a community volunteer-run program. Our partners and supporters include Dunk & Bright Furniture, Syracuse Cultural Workers, Tops Markets, National Grid, Scholastic Books, Onondaga County Public Libraries, Julie and Jim Boeheim Fdn., AlanBeyer Volvo, city of Syracuse, Rep. J Mannion. and our dedicated community volunteers.
