Description

**DUE TO SHIPPING AND PRODUCTION LOGISTICS THE OPTION TO SIGN UP WITH A SHIRT ENDED APRIL 30TH**

Are you disappointed the race event you have been training for has been cancelled? Do you run best when you are faced with a challenge? Have you ever wanted to run a marathon, but never thought you could? Join us the week of May 10-17 for a fun and unique experience during these times of uncertainty. The QuaRUNtine Challenge is a virtual race where participants complete a marathon over the course of a week.

Starting May 10, you have 8 days to run, walk, skip, shuffle, or dance a total distance of 26.2 miles, ending on May 17. You can complete this challenge entirely at your own pace, finishing all at once or taking your sweet, leisurely time. The goal is to get outside and enjoy some activity! If you want to stay inside and get your running in, treadmills are allowed.

We are offering two pricing options: $10 gets you entrance into the challenge and access to the race Facebook group to meet the community virtually running alongside you. $20 gets you all of the above and a souvenir race shirt to show off your accomplishments to your neighbors. Please note, we can only ship domestically. Special prizes will be awarded to top finishers. Even if you don’t finish 26.2 miles, you’ll still earn your shirt (if you chose that option) and your support will be greatly appreciated. Net proceeds from this event will be donated to the much-anticipated Wildcat Food Pantry which assists any Linfield student experiencing food insecurity during these unprecedented times.

We will share daily themes across our social media pages for you to participate in, and we look forward to seeing your progress. Since you are not able to travel we have taken the liberty of creating a virtual world for you to travel in. Each day you will travel virtually to a different city, and as you run your adventure in your own backyard, you will be able to see buildings and other sights as if you were in that city. Make your running experience a little more fun by dressing according to what region of the world you will be running in. Feel free to share pictures of your creativity with us on social media so we can post it for all your fellow runners to see. We will be posting results at the end of each day on our social media.

While running the whole marathon in your backyard is possible, it might get a little repetitive. Please remember when you are out and about to maintain safe social distancing. On top of this, the CDC recommends wearing a face covering as well, anything is better than nothing, however N95 masks should be reserved for medical personnel. Take this opportunity to enjoy the outdoors but remember to be safe while doing so!

Here are some things you may need to complete this virtual marathon: weather appropriate running gear, some trusty running shoes, water, your favorite sports drink, and some marathon-worthy snackage. Some great snack ideas for before, during, and after the race include bananas, oranges, energy bars, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and maybe a cookie or two to help you achieve your PR.

Progress will be self reported into a google form every day.

FAQ's

Who is organizing this race?

We are students at Linfield College, a small liberal arts college in McMinnville, Oregon. Our Economics of Running class has put this race together as a semester long project with the help of our professor, whilst learning about the economics of running along the way.

How do I track my mileage?

There are a couple different ways you can go about tracking the distance you run. Apps like Nike Run Club or Strava can take the data from your watch and upload it to your phone. If you don’t have a fancy watch, no problem! If you have got a pocket, or a hand, just start the app up and track it that way!
