Donation Goal: $5,000

The Gettysburg Community Soup Kitchen has been the cornerstone to those in need of a meal for over 30 Years. Having access to quality nutritious food is sometimes, not so common. GCSK works towards having food security for everyone in our community.

The Soup Kitchen opened its doors on October 1, 1991, as an outreach project of the Prince of Peace Church. Members of the parish prepared simple meals of soup and sandwiches for 307 people that year. The number of guests coming in to eat grew and in December of 1996, we incorporated. Our project became known as the Gettysburg Community Soup Kitchen. Our founder, Nancy Forgang created a board of directors.  This board had representation by members of seven local churches. The representation from the whole community is a reason for our success.

In January of 2012, we moved out of the basement of Prince of Peace and into Peace House, our current location. The week after Easter in 2012, we began 7-day service, adding a hot meal on Sundays as well. The caring relationship with our guests is as important as the food we serve.
