Help Preserve and Maintain Western Pennsylvania's Oldest Structure
The Fort Pitt Block House was constructed in 1764 to help defend Fort Pitt. The Fort served as a key defense for the British during the French and Indian War and later became the western headquarters for the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.
The Fort was demolished beginning in 1785. The Block House survived as a residence.
The Block House was gifted to the Fort Pitt Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1892. Since that time they have operated and maintained the Block House as a museum and historical site open to the public free of charge.
As a privately owned landmark, the Block House receives no state or federal funding. Your contribution will help preserve this important piece of history.
