Dogs are more than our best friends. They live and work with us every day. They protect our homes but most importantly, help protect our communities. To honor our first responders and canine units we are doing a 1 mile, mostly downhill run. All proceeds from the race will go to a first responder family in need.
The 2023 Back the Blue Run proceeds will go directly to the Gilstrap Family.
Danon and Tyler Gilstrap share a passion for serving our community. Tyler has worked as a nurse since 2011 at AnMed and St Francis hospital. Deputy Gilstrap has worked for the Pickens County Sheriff's office for 18 years. Tyler and Danon work in real estate as well.
In March 2023 their youngest daughter, Lainey, was diagnosed with Leukemia. Needless to say, this was the end of life as they knew it. Lainey has been receiving a steady dose of chemo ever since her diagnosis.
Their daughter began "red devil chemo" in August. This type of harsh chemo has forced the entire family to quarantine. The Gilstrap family has to continue this strict quarantine for the next few months. This means Danon and Tyler will have no income from their main jobs and no income from real estate as they cannot show properties at this time.
This couple selflessly gives without hesitation to our community each and every day, so we hope our community will show up in true Pickens fashion to support this precious family during this difficult season in their lives.
