100% of funds go towards meeting needs for food scarcity in the elderly population and providing free tax assistance to all individuals area wide.
Senior Farmers Market and Nutrition Program. This program served over 400 seniors this year. While we partner with DSS Nutrition Program to provide FREE $50 vouchers to seniors to use at local farmers markets, we offer additional $$ for fresh vegetables and produce, and connect them with other resources. This program not only helps our seniors but helps our local farmers. The vouchers and tokens are used with local farmers and increases their revenue. Your investment would go to increase the amount we are able to give seniors each year, which is especially important with the costs of food. Our goal is to not have seniors choose between buying medicine and buying nutritious fruits and vegetables.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). We prepare income tax returns for individuals/families with an income of $60,000 or less for FREE. This past tax season we were able to serve approximately 325 individuals/families producing $412,574 in refunds and saving $63,800 in tax prep fees. The demand for this program has greatly increased over the past few years and many of our citizens had to be served in different counties. Additional funding would allow us to increase the program and serve more families also giving us an opportunity to decrease borrowing and rapid refunding. This helps keep more money in the clients homes to meet other needs and in our community.
