Friends of McAllister Park (FOMP) is an all volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is the primary advocacy organization for McAllister Park. Founded in 1992, FOMP's mission is to protect and preserve the park's natural habitats and wildlife, encourage sustainable use, and promote public awareness and appreciation of the value of McAllister Park in aiding the quality of life of the community. We work with the City of San Antonio to identify maintenance needs, identify and advocate for capital improvement projects during each bond cycle, and act as a liaison between the public and the park regarding park issues. FOMP encourages park stewardship by hosting litter pickups and an ongoing invasive plant removal project intended to restore native plant diversity to the park.
Each year, donations to FOMP from the Prickly Pear race are allocated towards projects in the park that benefit all users. This year, donations from Prickly Pear will be used to design a new park map! The new map will include the addition of features that are missing on the current map like the Pump Track, Mosquito Lake, sections of paved trail, and will include new features like the soon-to-be Lila Cockrell Way, a natural surface trail that is being formalized with signage purchased by the 2022 and 2023 Prickly Pear donations!
Thanks to the wonderful partnership between SARR Prickly Pear and Friends of McAllister Park, your donations continue to improve McAllister Park for not only trail runners, but all users! Please donate today to help us design a much-needed new McAllister Park map!
