The Center receives at present no federal support for its general operation although some research projects are paid for through grant money. Howard University is able to provide support for essential personnel and infrastructure but cannot currently supply programmatic funding. Thus, for the community outreach, testing, counseling, education and some research projects and some personnel, monetary donations from individuals and from organizations are urgently needed.
MARU Advocates set a 2021 goal to reach $20,000 in donations. Monies raised provide countless opportunities in the fight against Sickle Cell Disease, including expanding testing and treatment sites, and funding crucial research and development.
