NORD supports research efforts and access to treatments by addressing a variety of policy issues, including:
Appropriations: Adequate funding for health care, research and development and public health programs like the FDA, NIH, and CDC in support of rare disease patients.
Research efforts and regulatory science: Helping scientists and researchers to work unimpeded in developing treatments, by working with regulatory agencies to ensure both safe and efficient pathways.
Access to affordable, adequate coverage: Rare disease patients need access to affordable, adequate, and accessible health care coverage to maintain their health.
Access to affordable medicines and diagnostics: Rare disease patients often face high costs for diagnosis and treatment, which can hinder their access to medically necessary care.
