Donation Goal: $25,000

Since 1915, Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society has been committed to enhancing and celebrating the human-animal bond. For over a hundred years, we have been dedicated to the care and placement of homeless companion animals and to help keep companion animals in loving and responsible homes throughout Windsor County, VT and surrounding communities.

Lucy Mackenzie is dedicated to the highest level of care and best placement of adoptable animals resulting in enhancing the bonds between animals and people through services and education.

The mission is accomplished by:

– Providing superior shelter and care for homeless animals
– Enhancing the human-animal bond through carefully aligned placements and offering post-adoption support
– Educating people of all ages about the care and humane treatment of animals
– Providing spay and neuter programs to reduce companion animal overpopulation
– Offering programs designed to support animals and people in our community through affordable training, health and wellness services and resources
– Advocating, within the bounds of Vermont State law, for mistreated and neglected companion animals and other domesticated animals

Lucy Mackenzie has always been here for animals and people in need, whether it be through owner surrender, adoption, dog training, post-adoption counseling or by helping to fund emergency veterinarian care and treatment. Over the past three years, we have continued to develop programs and services designed to help keep companion animals with their families, preventing them from having to be separated. Through our CARE Program (Community Animal Resources for Everyone), we offer the Lucy Mackenzie Pet Pantry, Jake's Friends Fund (providing financial support for necessary and emergency medical care), an emergency foster and boarding network, expanded low-cost neuter and vaccination clinics and surrender prevention counseling. These programs and offerings make a huge difference to people and their companion animals when tough times strike, whether it be the unexpected loss of employment, having to undergo emergency surgery, loss of housing, changes in households and more. We have seen, first-hand, a huge increase in demand for services such as these and have responded by further developing programs that meet these needs.
