The UW Womxn's Rugby Club is a group of undergraduate students at the UW who come together to learn, practice, and play rugby, with varying degrees of competition. For most, joining this team is their first experience with rugby and many fall deeply in love with the sport over their duration of participation. Our club aims to provide an inclusive, welcoming, and positive space for individuals to grow as athletes and people by fostering relationships with peers and coaches. Rugby allows our players to learn how to use their bodies in a challenging and liberating sport that boosts confidence both mentally and physically. Additionally, our club serves as a forum for students to learn how to properly fuel their bodies for physically taxing events and offers resources for promoting a positive relationship between food and body.
As a club we participate in matches year round with two distinct versions of rugby: 11s which dominates our fall and winter quarters, followed by 7s in the spring. We compete in the Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conference and travel state wide and down through Oregon. As a student-run team, we rely on sponsorships and donations, as well as financial support to help reduce entry fees, provide transportation to games, and allow our athletes to fulfill their goals-whether that be participating in their first match, competing year round, or aiming for the US National Team.
