Walk, Run, Swim, Paddle
Welcome to the Dr. Livingston Wong Memorial 5K Your Way virtual race in support or organ, eye and tissue donation. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic we can't hold regular race at a fixed time on a single course, but you can choose your own course and take up to six days to complete the 5K distance. If you're new to virtual races you can get some tips from this Runner's World article.
5K Your Way
How you complete the 5K Your Way race is totally up to you! You can walk, run or paddle. While we don't have official categories for biking, swimming or wheelchair racing yet, feel free to sign up for one of the three main categories and whatever it takes to get you over the finish line is fine with us.
Safety First
Because you're on your own, there won't be any race monitors or first responders on the course looking out for you, so a few precautions can go a long way to help you stay safe.
- Maintain social distancing—Select locations and times where you can maintain safe distances and be prepared to use your mask if you can't keep a distance of six feet or more from others.
- Know your limits—If you don't walk, run or paddle regularly, check with your doctor to see if it's safe to do a 5K.
- Track weather conditions—This is especially important for paddlers since high surf and winds can be challenging and dangerous
- Stay hydrated—This is a mid-summer event so the temperature and humidity may be higher than other seasons.
- Check in before and after—Be sure your family and friends are aware of your 5K route and schedule.
- Carry your phone—For paddlers, we recommend using floating waterproof pouches to protect your smartphones.
Choose Your Own Route
Where you do your 5K is also your choice. You can use a smartphone app like Strava or Google Maps to track your time and distance.
