Bay Area 9 Peaks Challenge - 2022 Swag - 9 Peaks Wood Peaks
Welcome to Wilderness First Aid!
Taught by EMT-B, Emilie Bard, this 16 hour course will certify you in Wilderness First Aid. It is the American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) course. If you are CPR/AED certified by The Red Cross or American Heart Association, Saturday's class starts at 10:00 am. If you NOT CPR/AED certified please arrive at 8:00 am. for the additional class
Q. Sixteen hours is a long time. What will I do?
A. The first eight hour day will be in a classroom and we will go over First Aid basics, as well as patient care. We will also learn how to use items found in the wilderness, or items you usually carry on a run, in place of standard First Aid materials. The second eight hour day will be outside in a local park and we will practice putting our new skills to use, with fake injuries of course. You can read more about the ASHI course from their website here
Q. How much does it cost and what's included in the cost?
A. The cost is $200. The cost includes the course, the student handbook, the two year certification and a Wilderness First Aid patch. If you need CPR/AED certification, there is an additional $60 fee. ( $10m off if your purchasing with a PCTR/Trailportal race on Runsignup)
Q. What about lunch?
A. For the first day you can bring your own lunch or grab lunch from one of our neighbors; our office is in the same plaza as Togos, Round Table Pizza and Heartbeat Cafe. On the second day please bring your own lunch as we will be outside all day.
Q. How long does the certification last?
A. You will be certified in Wilderness First Aid for two years.
Q. Is it safe to do indoor First Aid training during the COVID-19 pandemic? We follow the current county guildlines
A. Yes. Emilie has been teaching CPR and First Aid throughout the pandemic. For CPR we will not be giving breaths, we will remain masked and say the words, "breath, breath." If you are vaccinated you do not to wear a mask while at your desk. During training exercises while we are close to each other inside, please wear your mask. Per local health guidelines, unvaccinated participants should wear a mask indoors.
