Junior League of Hartford's Volunteer-a-thon 2023

Let’s get those trees in the ground! Join KNOX in the planting of 25 trees to increase the tree canopy in the city of Hartford. Projects of the day will include: digging the tree pits, the planting, mulching and staking of 25 trees and a ceremonial tree planting. Volunteers should plan on dressing for the weather, but also in layers. Parking will be available on the street. In case of inclement weather, you will be notified no later than 4 hours prior to the event to cancel or reschedule.

Join us to help clean the center kitchen and paint. Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford achieve measurable and sustained impact with programs that focus on Academic Success, Health & Wellness, Character & Leadership, STEAM, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and Workforce Readiness.

This volunteer opportunity has been a staple for members of the Junior League for many years. The Souper Sustainer volunteers make a commitment to provide and serve food for a healthy mid-day meal at the Loaves and Fishes center one Friday per month. There are approximately 120 clients who arrive for lunch every day. The serving volunteers arrive on Friday at 10:30am and serve food until 12:45pm.

Help us clean and organize the Foodshare warehouse as they prepare for their next distribution! Foodshare has distributed nearly 14 million meals of food to a network of more than 200 partner programs (including food pantries, meal programs and Mobile Foodshare sites).

Help assist in sorting donations and assisting Gifts of Love clients while they select what they need for clothing, housewares and food. Gifts of Love is driven by the simple principle that struggling working families sometimes need a little extra help. They are committed to supporting the basic living needs of their clients.

Make an impact in East Hartford! We are preparing to re-open the newly renovated Wickham Memorial Library, a branch library in East Hartford. This beautiful historical building has been completely updated to be ADA accessible and will be equipped with new and popular books, high speed wi-fi, public computers, and community event space. Help us to prepare the library for the grand opening by setting up the space with books and other library materials. We will have time to explore the building and learn about its history and architectural details, as well as EHPL's community initiatives to support literacy in East Hartford.

Join us to create first aid kits for the clients of Hands on Hartford. Hands On Hartford is a social service nonprofit organization that serves Hartford’s most economically challenged residents in the areas of food, housing, and health.

Journey Home has spent more than a decade committed to ending homelessness in Connecticut’s Capital Region.We will be creating Welcome Home Baskets for their formerly homeless clients.

Covenant to Care partners with social service agencies to provide direct assistance and critical goods to families with children who are struggling to meet basic needs. They connect children with the essentials they need as they are placed into foster care, are reunited with their families, or to help them remain in their home. These kits will be given to those kids aged ~8-18 or at the discretion of the social worker.

Join us on the Decoraion Team for the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society's Greater Hartford Walk! Help assist with unloading and distributing supplies, hanging banners and signage, decorating tents and tables (heavy lifting required ≤25 lbs).

Join us in gardening to support the Freshplace Market and catering intiatives. Freshplace is an innovative client-choice, fresh food and case management food pantry located on our main campus in Hartford. Freshplace at Chrysalis Center serves up to 100 families living in the poorest neighborhoods in the North End of Hartford.

Brighten the day of a person in a Senior Living facility by painting a clay pot and planting a flower. Registrants are also welcome to write a letter of encouragement to be delivered with flower as well.

Help load and deliver household goods and furniture to Journey Home clients throughout the Hartford area. Participants are asked to be able to lift up to 20 lbs, though it may not be necessary depending on items. Volunteers will meet at the warehouse to load up the Journey Home truck and will be given the locations of the homes for deliveries the day of. If bad weather occurs we will organize at the warehouse and load the truck for future deliveries. Journey Home has spent the last decade committed to ending chronic homelessness in the Greater Hartford region. For the first time in 35 years, everyone they have verified as chronically homeless in Greater Hartford is in the process of finding a home, a home where they will be provided permanent housing with the support services they need.
