The Race Community Impact Service Day

Project Description: Volunteers will begin the day with a tour of our Grocery Store and Garden to learn about the future of community-owned and operated food systems before settling for a light seed sowing session. Afterwards, volunteers will commence garden clearing in preparation for our Fall/Winter crop season.

Due to the impending storm forecast for tomorrow, we are shifting our upcoming volunteer event to an indoor service project to ensure everyone stays safe and dry.

Here are the updated details for tomorrow:

Location: Our Main Building - 2210 Sylvan Road, Unit E, Atlanta, GA 30344 (the unit with 3 buses outside)

Time: Unchanged - 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Activities: We will be sorting clothing, shoes, and towel donations, resetting the Dignity Bus for winter, and clearing out old inventory.

Important Reminders for Tomorrow: Our warehouse space is not fully climate-controlled, so please dress comfortably for the weather. Also, wear closed toe shoes and leave all personal bags and valuables at home.

Project Description: Packing STEM bags for Women in STEM Walkathon participants. This event aims to inspire girls by highlighting the accomplishments of women in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Volunteers would help with sorting items, writing encouraging notes, and packing the bags.

Location: 477 Windsor st, Atlanta Ga 30312 (Entrance on Fulton St)

Project Description: We will be preparing the R.I.S.E. Community Garden for the fall & winter growing seasons. This is the oldest community garden in a City of Atlanta park. We teach people how to grow food & live sustainably. The produce grown benefits the community and helps to fund our work. This opportunity includes weeding, planting fall seedlings, making signs, & gardening education.

The garden and entrance are on Fulton St., not Windsor. Please bring gloves, a hat, and a water bottle.

Project Description: Write hand written cards for survivors, children of survivors, caregivers of survivors, and help pack care packages.

Free parking provided on site. All ages welcome.

If you are able, please bring care package items for survivors and caregivers (journals, pens, natural (chemical free) hygiene items, uplifting reading materials, gift cards).

Parking is on the left side of the white Ardens Garden building, if facing from the street. Entrance stairs are at the GREEN docks out front. Ring bell switch.

Location: The Hunger Coalition Action Center, 3400 North Desert Drive Atlanta, GA 30322

Project Description: Sort and pack donated food, repackage bulk produce and grain, and prepare boxes of groceries for Georgia Seniors.

Attire: Wear comfortable clothing and shoes that you are ok getting dirty. All volunteers are required to wear closed-toe, closed-heel shoes. Boots or sneakers are typically best suited for this activity. Please note that Crocs, sandals, and open-toed shoes are strictly prohibited in the facility.
