Event: Marathon

The Soldier Full Marathon course is a 26.2 mile course that starts and finishes at the National Infantry Museum. The start line and finish line are on the Avenue of Flags along the east side of the National Infantry Museum. The first 7.5 miles of the course are on Ft. Benning. The remaining miles are out and back on the RiverWalk from Oxbow Meadows to Uptown Columbus, Georgia. The course runs along the Riverwalk to the Water Works Treatment Facility, then continues on the RiverWalk to the Naval Museum, behind the Civic Center, and to the Historic District. The course continues on Front Avenue to 10th Street and then to the Woodruff Green and a ramp down to the Riverwalk. The course exits the Riverwalk at the 14th Street and continues to the TSYS campus, then returns on 14th Street and crosses the 14th Street Pedestrian Bridge into Phenix City, Alabama, where the course continues along the Riverwalk on the Alabama side to Dillingham Bridge, then crosses to Columbus and returns on the RiverWalk to Oxbow Meadows and to the National Infantry Museum.

The Soldier Marathon is unique in that its course runs past or near all of the major community assets and museums along the RiverWalk: the National Infantry Museum, the Learning Center at Oxbow Meadows, the Naval Museum, the Civic Center, the Coco-Cola Space Science Museum, the Trade Center, the RiverCentre, the CSU Uptown campus, the Springer Theatre, the Historic District, Uptown Columbus, the Synovus Centre, the TSYS Campus, the Pedestrian Bridge, the Dillingham Bridge, the White Water course on the Chattahoochee River, and the Phenix City Riverwalk and its Troy University campus.

Event: Half-Marathon

The Soldier Half Marathon course is a 13.1 mile course that starts and finishes at the National Infantry Museum. Event: Relay Marathon

The Soldier Relay Marathon is a total 26.2 mile course that starts and finishes at the National Infantry Museum. The start line and finish line are on the Avenue of Flags along the east side of the National Infantry Museum. Each team will consist of no less than 2 runners and no more than 4 runners. The relay teams start at the same start line as the other runners. There are three exchange points on the course: mile 7.5, mile 13.1 and mile 20.2. The first and third legs of the relay are longer while the second and fourth legs of the relay are shorter. The lead runner on the Relay Team will wear a slap bracelet on his/her wrist. At each exchange point the runner removes the slap bracelet and hands it to the next runner. The last runner receives the slap bracelet and a race bib with a timing chip to get a finishing time. Each runner wears a Race Bib with the same Relay Team number (e.g. 5001A, lB, lC and 1D). The relay exchange points are accessible by car. Transportation for relay team members will not be provided by the Soldier Marathon. Relay exchange point #1 is on S. Lumpkin Road directly beside the National Infantry Museum at the crossing to Oxbow Meadows. Relay exchange points #2 and #3 are on the RiverWalk behind the VFW on Victory Drive about 0.2 mile south of the Bulldog Marina. To access Relay exchange points #2 and #3 you can park at the Victory Drive Overlook on Victory Drive across the street from the Dolly Madison plant near the VFW and walk down the stairs from the parking lot to the RiverWalk.

A team representative may pick up the registration packet with a bib for each member of the relay team.

Each member of the relay team will receive a finisher’s t-shirt and a finisher’s medal.

Event: 5K

The 5K race starts right after the start of the marathon and half marathon races. Runners for the 5K race will queue up behind the marathon and half marathon runners. After the start of the marathon and half marathon race, the 5K runners will move up to the same start line to begin the 5K race.

The Soldier 5K course is a 3.1 mile course that starts and finishes at the same start and finish line for the marathon and half marathon at the National Infantry Museum. The 5K course runs down the Avenue of Flags along the east side of the National Infantry Museum, turns left at the parking lot of the National Infantry Museum and runs to the entrance of the Museum at South Lumpkin Road, then turns left on South Lumpkin Road and runs to the entrance of the RiverWalk at Oxbow Meadows where the course continues on the RiverWalk along the Oxbow golf course to the public road leading to the Water Works Treatment Facility. The course turns left at the public road leading to the Water Works Facility and runs for a short distance before turning around to return on the RiverWalk to South Lumpkin Road and to the National Infantry Museum to finish on the Avenue of Flags.

Finishers will receive a t-shirt. Overall winners and age-group winners will also receive awards.

Event: Kids Marathon

The Soldier Kids Marathon and Half Marathon is a running program for kids ages 3 to 12 that is designed to build endurance and to encourage an active lifestyle. The program is flexible enough for the experienced runner as well for as the beginning runner. Under the program kids will run the full marathon distance (26.2 miles) or half marathon distance (13.1 miles) over 100 days before the Soldier Marathon race date.

All kids must keep track of their miles on a mileage log sheet. The log sheet may be downloaded through the following link Kids Soldier Marathon log sheet or on the Soldier Marathon website under the tab describing the Soldier Kids Marathon. After the kid has logged either 25.2 miles or 12.1 miles, the kid’s parent or guardian will sign the bottom of the log sheet certifying that the mileage has been completed and bring the completed log sheet to the National Infantry Museum on Race Day, Friday, November 6, 2015 to qualify to run the 1-mile Fun Run on Friday, November 6, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. at the National Infantry Museum.

The final 1 mile Fun Run to complete the 26.2 mile marathon or 13.1 half marathon will be run at the National Infantry Museum at 5:30pm on Friday November 6th, 2015. The 1-mile course at the National Infantry Museum will begin on the Avenue of Flags and run a loop to Oxbow Meadows and return to finish on the Avenue of Flags. Each child who completes the Soldier Kids Marathon will receive a t-shirt and finisher’s medal on Friday, November 6, 2015 when the child crosses the finish line of the 1-mile Fun Run.

The Soldier Kids Marathon is not a timed event and there are no official winners. The 1 mile Fun Run at the National Infantry Museum on Friday at 5:30 pm, November 6th, will not be timed. All running by the kids will be on the honor system and will require supervision by their parents or guardians.

Friday night at the National Infantry Museum there is a wonderful pasta dinner available to runners and their families at 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The charge is $15 for adults, $25 for two, and $10 for children.

Event: Team RWB Virtual Marathon

The Soldier Marathon offers a virtual marathon race to Team RWB members. Runner will measure in good faith a 26.2 mile marathon distance course of his or her choosing. During the week of Sunday, November 1, 2015 to Saturday, November 7, 2015, the Team RWB member will run the 26.2 measured distance and keep a record of the run on a Garmin or similar measuring device. After completing the run, the Team RWB member shall photograph the results on the Garmin or other measuring device, and forward the photograph and a statement of completion to the Soldier Marathon email address at info@SoldierMarathon.com. Upon receipt of the statement of completion and the photograph the Soldier Marathon will mail the Team RWB member a finisher's t-shirt and a medal commemorating the completion of the marathon distance race.
