Warpath Strength Stone & Steel Challenge

Registration for this competition will be capped at 35 athletes so please sign up early. If you register after September 18, a competition t-shirt is not guaranteed. We will maintain a waiting list for any athletes who want to sign up after 35 competitors have registered.

You must have a current membership to United States Strongman in order to compete.

Here are the events and rules:

Log Press

Athletes will be required to clean the log once and then press away every rep. A successful rep will be counted once the athlete’s knees, hips, shoulders and elbows are all locked out and the athlete is clearly in control of the implement. The athlete must wait for the down command from judge for lift to be counted. There is a 60 second time limit for this event. Athlete with the most reps in 60 seconds wins.

Equipment allowed: Belt, knee and elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk, gloves.

Equipment NOT allowed: No grip shirts and absolutely no tacky of any kind (not from a jar, no spray, no towels, no tape).

Dropping the log from overhead will result in a zero for the event and possibly (very likely) expulsion from the competition. Please respect the equipment.

Axle Deadlift

Athletes must deadlift the 2” axle bar from the ground to a full lockout position (the hips must come through) for as many reps as possible in 60 seconds. The athlete’s hands must remain outside his/her knees for each pull (no Sumo pulls). Athlete must wait for the “down” command in order to be given a successful rep. There will NOT be an “up” command, so the athlete may complete the reps in a “touch-and-go” manner as long as each rep is completely locked out. Athletes will be allowed to hitch. Athlete with the most reps in 60 seconds wins.

Dropping the axle from the lockout position will result in a zero for the event and possibly expulsion from the competition. Please respect the equipment.

Equipment allowed: Deadlift suits, belt, knee and elbow sleeves, knee and wrist wraps, wrist straps, chalk.

Equipment NOT allowed: No gloves, hook-grip straps and absolutely NO tacky of any kind (not from a jar, no spray, no towels, no tape).

Farmers Carry

Athletes will carry a set of farmers handles either down a 70' course (straight, no turn), OR walk 30’ down around a stationary object (i.e. cone) while maintaining the carry, and return back down the course to the finish line (the course will depend on the weather). The weight listed are per hand. It is NOT a total weight. Athletes will be allowed two (2) drops. If the athlete drops a 3rd time or cannot complete the course in :60 seconds, a distance will be recorded. If the athlete touches the stationary object as they are turning around or slides the farmers handles on the floor, a :02 second penalty will be added to the athlete’s time. Only the front of the implement must cross the finish line to complete course.

Equipment allowed: Belt, knee and elbow sleeves, knee and wrist wraps, chalk.

Equipment NOT allowed: Gloves and tacky of any kind (not from a jar, no spray can, no tacky towels, no tape).

Stone-to-Shoulder

Athlete may start with his/her hands on TOP of the stone, but not underneath. When the “Go” command is given, the athlete will load the stone to his/her shoulder to a full lockout position, demonstrate control of the stone and wait for the judge to give a “down” command before lowering the stone and reloading it. Athlete must wait for the “down” command in order to be given a successful rep. Athletes will have 60 seconds to load the stone for as many reps as possible. Athletes may load the stone to either shoulder. Athlete with the most reps in 60 seconds wins.

Dropping the stone from the lockout position on the shoulder will result in a zero for the event and possibly expulsion from the competition. Please respect the equipment.

Equipment allowed: Belt (worn with buckle in the back), knee and elbow sleeves, knee and wrist wraps, chalk, tape, tacky towels and spray tacky ONLY, gloves.

Equipment NOT allowed: No grip shirts. Absolutely no tacky solid or semi-solid tacky from a jar, tube bottle or other container.

"Iron Cross" Chain Hold for time

Athlete will hold a custom-built handle/implement loaded with chain weight. Arms must be straight and fully-extended laterally (i.e. Iron Cross) at 90 degrees (parallel to the ground). Time will start once the athlete’s arms are locked out with the handle/implement, which they will hold for as long as possible. Athlete will stand against either a wall or some type of upright (post or pole) and must maintain contact with the back of their head and lower back throughout the attempt. If the athlete’s head or lower back comes off the wall or upright, the attempt is over. If the athlete’s arm (wrist/elbow/forearm) drop below parallel, the attempt is over.

Equipment allowed: Belt, knee and elbow sleeves, knee and wrist wraps, wrist straps, chalk.

Equipment NOT allowed: No gloves and no tacky of any kind (not from a jar, no spray, no towels, no tape) will be allowed.

Complimentary food and massage will be available to all competitors.

We are planning to hold this competition outside as long as the weather permits. If it is too cold (cooler than 50 degrees), raining or snowing (yes, it has snowed in Illinois in early October before), we will hold the competition indoors.
