Allerton Races

Two small sections of the course are run on the beautiful asphalt road from the starting line, across the Sangamon, and to the first trailhead. This enables a long, wide starting field that thins down in plenty of time to hit the double-track Schroth Trails. The first half (identical to 10K) winds through heavily wooded moderate terrain above the Sangamon River, circles through the historic Lost Garden and into a gorgeous meadow, crosses the river again, then proceeds to a meadow trail loop and a Sunken Garden/ Centaur/ Sun Singer tour before finally finishing with a 100-yard dash between the FuDogs right to the foot of the beautiful tower!

The 10K course starts alongside the Half Marathon, and follows the same course until breaking away for a FuDog finish right at the very end. HM folks and 10K folks all run (or walk) together for the first 6 miles! Perfect for family and friends who want to run different distances! Like the Half Marathon course, the 10K starts with an asphalt stretch across the river to the Schroth trailhead, winds through moderate wooded terrain above the Sangamon River, circles through the historic Lost Garden and into a gorgeous meadow, crosses the river again, then finishes with a 100-yard dash between the FuDogs right to the foot of the beautiful tower!

Experience Allerton After Dark and see the park in a whole new light! Starting and finishing near the Visitor Center, you'll follow illuminated trail markings under a starry sky, and you'll also provide a lot of the glow! You'll also pass right through the nighttime magic of the Sunken Garden, Chinese Musicians, Rodin's Adam, and more, as you make your way to the finish! This race is the perfect night-before warm-up for Saturday competitors. Entrants must bring their own headlamp, arm-light, or flashlight.
