Miles for Meals 2024
The Hancock County Food Drive invites you to sign up for Miles for Meals, a week-long fitness challenge that is raising funds for 17 local food pantries, meal programs, and school food assistance programs. Register online and recruit donations for every intentional mile you walk, run, bike, swim, or climb between April 1 and April 30, 2024. Lace up those running shoes and hiking boots, put on your swim caps and bike helmets, and join us in building food security in Hancock County!
How it works:
1. Individuals: $10 for adults, $4 for youth (18 and under)
Teams: Teams of 5 or more pay $5 each! When signing up, the first 4 registrants will pay $10 each, but will each receive a $5 refund when the 5th member joins.
Registrants have the option of creating a fundraiser. This is encouraged! Doing so will make it easier for your friends and family to donate to the Food Drive, and it will make you eligible for one of our prizes.
Registrants have the option of making a donation when signing up. If you wish to surpass the donation option, just click "continue" at the bottom of the page.
2. You will receive a confirmation email from Run Sign Up after you register. If you chose to create a fundraiser, Run Sign Up will send you a link to your own fundraising page that you can personalize and share with others.
3. Start logging your miles on April 1! Update your Run Sign Up account with every intentional mile (not just the total number of steps you take during the day) that you complete between 4/1/24 - 4/30/24, and share your success with your sponsors.
Biking a mile is easier for many people than running a mile, and swimming a mile is even harder! To make counting fair across activity types, please use the following conversions when recording miles on your activity log:
1 running/walking mile = 2 biking miles
1 running/walking mile = 1/4 swimming miles
1 running/walking mile = 50 yards climbed (AKA, 10 laps of a bouldering wall, or 4 laps of a top rope/lead wall) = 1 running/walking mile
4. Your results (# of miles and fundraising total) will be reviewed after the event closes at 11:59PM on 4/30/24. Winners will be announced the first week in May!
We are partnering with local businesses to offer great prizes to the individuals and teams who raise the most funds and log the most miles. Past prizes have included gift certificates to local restaurants, bakeries, massage studios, cafes, activities, and sports shops.
100% of the funds raised through Miles for Meals will go to food assistance programs in Hancock County, Maine.
Miles for Meals is organized by the Hancock County Food Drive (HCFD), a collaborative fundraiser organized by 17 food pantries, free meal programs, and school food assistance programs. The HCFD takes place every year throughout the month of April. To learn more, visit www.hcfooddrive.org.
