As we all know, February is a month that is full of love. What better way to show our love for our neighbors in Randolph County than to shower them with kindness? You can do just that by completing this month's challenge, Kind Hearts Unite. The rules are as follows:

1. As a team, identify and complete three (3) acts of kindness that you can safely perform anywhere inside of Randolph County.

2. Document each act of kindness in some way. Pictures are preferred and can be submitted to this event page. If you are not able to obtain a photo of the act or acts, you may submit a summary of what was completed via email to volunteercenter@uwrandolph.org for verification purposes. We also ask that your team leader use the "log result" feature of this event to let us know how many total acts of kindness were completed by your team.

3. Once we verify that three (3) acts of service have been completed by your team we will enter your team into this month's $50 drawing.

That is it! The county is now yours to love on and we can't wait to see what you come up with.

Event: Challenge 5 - Memorial Day Memory Project

The month of May offers us the opportunity to honor and remember our nations fallen hero's. While we should be thankful for their lives the whole year through, the Memorial Day holiday reminds us to stop for a moment really reflect on the lives of those who paid the ultimate price for our county's freedoms and peace of mind. That is why this month we are asking you to complete an act of service that will honor the memory of these brave men and women. You will have two options of tasks that you can completed and they are as follows:

Option 1
Create a video to share on your social media related to Memorial Day. The video can explore the history of Memorial Day and explain the differences between it and Veteran's Day OR it can be used to share about the life of a fallen hero. We would love it if you could share the story of a local hero, but any hero who has touched your heart can be highlighted. Videos should be no longer than 5 minutes in length and finished products can be sent to volunteercenter@uwrandolph.org. We also ask that your team leader upload one (1) screenshot of the video being posted on a social media account to this event page so that we know that the video was used for its intended purpose. If you need ideas for this project here are a few helpful websites:

Option 2
Write letters to those who are grieving the death of a military loved
one. You can do this by submitting letters to the TAPS program. Information regarding how this works can be found at https://www.taps.org/globalassets/support/pdfs/taps-words-of-remembrance.pdf. To show proof of the completion of this project we will accept photos of your team writing letters together, a copy of a letter that was written, or a photo of your letters packaged up to be mailed off. Team leaders can submit photos here on the event page after you enter your results.

Possible 3rd Option TBA

Event: Challenge 6 - Fun in the Summer Sun - Community Scavenger Hunt

It's summertime! Time for enjoying nature while getting together with family and friends. In an effort to bring everyone closer together, we would like to offer you a game of frisbee, on us! The only catch is this frisbee is also an art canvas waiting for your personal touch. A team representative can come by the United Way of Randolph County office to pick up a team frisbee Monday's and Friday's between the hours of 10 and 4. Teams will then come together to decorate their frisbee in a theme that relates to the organization they will be walking/running for in the 2022 Human Race. Their are no limits to how you can accomplish this task, and we can't wait to see your creativity! Hopefully you will still be able to send your frisbee soaring after it's decorated because we want your team to spend some time together in the warm sunshine playing a fun and relaxing game of frisbee toss together. Soak in the memories and strengthen your relationships as you play while also keeping in mind why your team came together in the first place...to raise money and awareness for a deserving non-profit of your choice in the 2022 Human Race.

In order to for your teams participation in this challenge to be validated, your team leader must use the "log result" feature on this event to let us know how many minutes your team spent together on this challenge as well as upload one (1) photo of their frisbee and one(1) photo of their team playing with the frisbee to this event page.

Once your results have been logged and your photos have been uploaded your team will be entered into the monthly drawing for $50 to give to the non-profit of your choice.

Event: Challenge 7 - Free to Give Back

July is a time to celebrate many things such as time with family, summer vacations, warm weather and of course our nation's freedom! We have the freedom to do so many things when we want, how we want and where we want. You can use that freedom to go so many places or do so many things, but what if for a few hours this month you use it to give back to your community in the form of volunteer work? Are you game? If so, we invite you participate in this month's Free to Give Back challenge. Below are the rules we would like for you to follow:

1. Together with your team, choose an organization that you want to support. For most teams, this will be the organization you will be walking/running to support during The Human Race in October.

2. Contact that organization and determine if they are allowing volunteers at this time. If they are accepting volunteers we suggest that teams who are volunteering all at once volunteer for no less than 5 hours. For teams who are not able to volunteer together at one time, we suggest that each team member volunteer for no less than 2 hours this month. We understand that this may not be doable for everyone, so we ask that in the end, you donate whatever time you have available.

3. Once your team has completed their volunteer time, we ask that your team leader use the log results feature on this event page to let us know a total amount of hours volunteered by your team.

4. In addition to the time submission, we ask that you also take a photograph to document your volunteer time and have your team leader submit it to this page.

The completion of the above steps will validate your participation in this months game and will earn your team an entry into this month's $50 drawing.

Volunteering Alternative: If the organization your team has chosen to support is not able to support volunteers at this time or if your team does not have the ability to volunteer their time to your chosen organization, we would like to offer an alternative. You may reach out to the organization and ask of any other needs that they have at this time that your team can work together to meet. An example of this would be that the organization has a need for food donations and your team works together to gather donation throughout the month of July. If this is to be the case, we ask to see in writing from the organization that they have approved this alternative form of giving. You can send written approvals to volunteercenter@uwrandolph.org. You will not have to submit a grand total time for alternative activities, however we will still require the submission of photographed proof that the activity was completed.
