Volksmarsch at the Reindeer Farm

Volksmarches are a tradition in Germany dating back to the 60s and fondly remembered by many US service members stationed there through the 80s. They are organized, non-competitive walks through fields and forests. They are typically 5 km long (about 3 miles), ending with a festival-style event with bratwurst, beer and music.

We hope to continue this fun tradition at the Shortsville Reindeer Farm!

Follow the signs for parking and then walk to the barn. The walk begins at 10am. We will stroll around the outside of the reindeer pasture, then through fields and forests, looping back to the barn. We have a short-cut path for people who don't want to walk the full 5 km.

The Krazy Firemen German Band will provide live oom-pah music from 11am to 2pm.

We will have grilled bratwurst from Josef's Artisan Meats in Canandaigua and "Reindeer P" beer from Shortsville's own Rebel Sailor Brewery. One free bratwurst is included in the price of admission.

Guests are free to relax in the barn or the lawn until 2 pm. The reindeer will be visible in their pasture, but guests will not have the ability to interact with the reindeer at this event.

LGBTQ+ friendly. Well-behaved dogs welcomed (on a leash at all times.)

All guests ages 3 and up, whether walking or not, are required to register.

This is a fundraiser for the Red Jacket Community Library.

What's included
For your $20 registration fee you receive:

-The opportunity to stroll 5km through forests and fields
-One free bratwurst with local mustard at the end of the walk
-Opportunity to purchase additional bratwurst, beer, and water
-3 hours of live music by the band the Krazy Firemen

There will be a portable toilet and hand washing station on site.

What's not included
Guests will not have the opportunity to interact or feed the reindeer.

Please dress for the weather. The following items are recommended:

Comfortable walking shoes
Camping chair
Lawn blanket
Water bottle

OPTIONAL:
Walking staff
Lederhosen or Dirndl if you have it

Restrictions
The paths are not wheelchair or stroller accessible but the rest of the event area is.
