About the Seminar: Dementia is a hot topic these days and it seems to be touching all of our lives. Many people are fearing the worst and frequently confuse normal signs of aging with real red flags for Dementia. Join us for an interactive, super engaging workshop that will identify the true signs of brain failure. The learner will develop better observational skills to recognize and intervene effectively when behavioral challenges occur. Learners will also develop new skills related to approach, cueing, and ability to connect with people affected by dementia. The workshop emphasizes the value of matching helping behaviors to the person's needs and retained abilities to promote a sense of control and self-direction. The workshop will also address typical issues that occur from early stages of the condition, through mid-disease, and into the final care concerns that are part of the progression.

Event: Epilepsy Alliance Ohio Professional Seminar Series - "Supervision: A Focus on Developmental Models"
Speaker: Dr. Rochelle Dunn, PhD, PCC-S, Senior Lecturer, Counselor Education, Department of Educational Studies, the Ohio State University.

About the Seminar: This session will begin with a general introduction to supervision. The roles of the supervisee and the supervisor will be addressed in depth. The session will look at what the Ohio Revised Code has to say about the supervision relationship. Sample paperwork will be reviewed. Attendees will learn the integrated developmental model of supervision and how to implement this model in their own supervision. This seminar meets the supervision requirement for Counselors and Social Workers.

About the Seminar: Anger management was a hot topic in the nineties and many approaches to helping people with this problem were promoted and taught with little to no change overall. The ideas set out in this workshop are designed for helping clients with the prevention of bitterness and rage and to provide important information about anger control and how to truly help clients make progress in this area of their lives. About the Seminar: What you eat determines your health, and statistics show you cannot "out train" a poor diet. Nutrition controls our mood and even predisposes us to many diseases like diabetes, cancer, and dementia. The gut brain connection will be discussed and what people can do to create the best defense against symptoms of aging & disease including the MIND and DASH diet. We will also be discussing how aging can cause changes in a person's sensitivity to medications. In addition, complications form medications can arise in people with dementia. The ultimate goal with medications is to prevent exacerbation of cognitive impairment and delirium. Lastly participants will observe two scenarios that demonstrate dementia vs. benign symptoms of natural aging.
