TRAVERSE MTB offers a prologue and four stages of varied terrain, amazing scenery, and wildlife viewing. The course is raceable by the experienced, challenging to adventurers, and rewarding for all.

But would-be participants should know TRAVERSE is a true backcountry race adventure. The race takes place on double track safari roads, fast single track, and technical single track. Cyclists encounter stones, rock, sand, thorns, wildlife and more thorns.

Although our time cutoffs are lenient enough for most anyone to finish, you should know north Tanzania’s geography, flora and fauna — while spectacular to witness — are also formidable obstacles with which to contend.

Our MTB single track is not designed for bicycles; rather, it was constructed by donkeys and wild animals, for donkeys and wild animals. You likely will fall, absolutely will bleed, and most certainly will carry your bicycle.

We don’t say this to scare potential riders away (ahem, perhaps we do), but rather to encourage you to consider our event as more than a test of skill.

Team (duo) categories are male, female, and mixed. Members of a team must ride together, separated by no more than 5 minutes at any point during a stage.

Runners will encounter challenging terrain, high elevations, thorns, wildlife and more thorns.

Though our food is both delicious and plenty, TRAVERSE is not a local Thanksgiving Trot.

Team (relay) categories are male, female, and mixed.
1) Each member of a relay team must run a single, uninterrupted leg of every stage; one runner will begin the stage and the other finish.
2) Each stage’s relay order may be determined independent of the order on other stages.
3) Teams will choose their relay exchange location from multiple checkpoint options each day. This allows runners of different abilities to participate together and be competitive.

TRAVERSE GRVL offers five stages of remarkable geography, amazing scenery and wildlife viewing. The course is raceable by the experienced, challenging to adventurers, and rewarding for all.

But would-be participants should know TRAVERSE GRVL is a true backcountry race adventure. The race takes place on double track safari roads, fast single track, and some technical single track. Cyclists will encounter stones, sand, thorns, wildlife and more thorns.

Although our time cutoffs are lenient enough for almost anyone to finish, this is not your great aunt’s gravel event (as hip as she may be).

Our Simba Farm package allows spectators to relax at Simba Farm Lodge, while the racers sweat and bleed.

Once the racers leave race village one at Simba Farm, spectators will spend the remainder of the week in standard bedroom accommodation at the lodge.

Enjoy delicious food, spa days and various cultural and/or farm activities until the end of the race.

Simba Farm package spectators will be transported to meet their racers post-race in Arusha, Moshi or at the airport.

The first three nights accommodation will be shared tent camping with racer partners at Simba Farm.

Private rooms will be available for the next three nights, on a first purchased, first served basis.

The Simba Farm Package is all-inclusive of transport, accommodation, food and drink, as well as assorted daily activities.

A spectator may accompany any registered participant, and will share his/her tent for the duration of the event.

Spectators will be on all-inclusive status (transport, accommodation, food and drink), and will enjoy access to all national parks and wildlife management areas, including Kilimanjaro National Park.

Spectators will be transported between camps in a race vehicle, and have options of a variety of activities and cultural experiences along the way.
