Description
The 2nd Annual Scrub Jay Trail Race and Ultra Marathon will take place at the Lyonia Preserve in Deltona, Florida on Sunday, February 27th. Lyonia Preserve offers a unique trail running experience in Florida. This course is a 1.97 mile loop course around the preserve. The trail consists of single track trails, areas of soft sugar sand, rolling hills and no shade. This is a beautiful and challenging course. Register for the 12 hour ultra marathon and come run as many laps with us as you want. Join us for the full day or come out for a few hours. The goal of this event is to do as many laps on the course as you can. Awards will be based on the number of laps completed. All participants will receive a custom race t-shirt and finishers award. There will be one aid station on the course located at the start / finish line. You will pass the aid station once each lap. You may leave drop bags at the aid station.

Lyonia Preserve Trails and Course Map
The scrub on Lyonia Preserve is an imperiled Florida ecosystem that is found on high sandy ridges and is dominated by short oaks and other low vegetation, numerous open areas of white sand, and very few tall trees. Many of the plants and animals living in the scrub habitat are fully dependent upon these characteristics for their survival and success. Florida scrub, where plants and animals have adapted industrious and clever means to survive and succeed in harsh conditions, is designated as an imperiled habitat. Scrub is the only place where the Florida scrub jay can be found. Scrub jays are Florida’s only endemic bird and are listed as a threatened species.
Trails
Three hiking trails (0.4 miles, 1.2 miles, and 2.4 miles) wind through the conservation land, starting behind the Deltona Regional Library and Lyonia Environmental Center. A combination of these trails will be used for the race creating a 1.97 mile loop through the preserve. You may observe more than 164 species of plants and more than 124 species of animals.
There is no shade in Lyonia Preserve. Trail conditions are soft, deep sand. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring a bottle of water.
Packet Pickup
Packet Pickup will be available on race morning beginning at 5:30am at the Pavilion.

Parking is available in the Deltona Regional Library parking lot at the trailhead.

Aid Station and Drop Bags
There will be an aid station located at the pavilion. You will pass this aid station once each lap. There will be water, Gatorade, soda, and a variety of snacks and food available at the aid station. If you have special nutritional needs we recommend that you bring your own food to the event.
This is a cupless race. You must bring your own hydration bottle or pack.
You are welcome to leave drop bags in the pavilion to access throughout the event. Drop bags are left at your own risk and are not monitored by race staff.

Race Bling
Participants will receive a custom race t-shirt and a custom finishers mug. There will be no medals for this event. Your stainless carabiner mug is your medal. We will have awards for the top 3 male and female finishers of the event. Awards are a custom embroidered Scrub Jay hat.
