Sadly due to the Covid situation we will not be holding this event in person this year. I have been debating for weeks/months on whether or not to hold the event virtually instead. Of course (like all others) it won't be the same, it has always been important to me to create a festive, fun, community vibe with this event, which will now be impossible for this year. Bringing people together is what gives me purpose and brings me happiness. It has been truly heartbreaking to have to cancel events, for me and all of us in the event industry.
While participating in a virtual event is not nearly the same experience as being there in person, it still gives us something to train for, something to look forward to and something we can do with our friends and family. It also allows us to keep the event going so we don't have a year the event just doesn't happen. For all of these reasons I decided today to go ahead with the virtual option.
You'll still get the signature glow in the dark gender specific shirt, the glow in the dark finishers medals and a bib # you can print at home. I'll work on anything else I might be able to round up!
You can choose to run the 5k anywhere you'd like. There will be a separate leaderboard for those running the actual course versus those running somewhere else. After your run on December 12th you'll submit your times through the results tab here on Runsignup. I have not decided yet if I'll do awards. It's tricky with a virtual event but it would be fun to figure out.
Course description for those running the official course:
Starts and ends in Veteran's Park 105 S 2nd St, Flagler Beach, FL 32136. Runners depart the start line running West on S 2nd then will turn right onto Flagler Ave. You will will then turn left onto the pedestrian lane on Flagler Bridge, making a sharp turnaround at Wadsworth Park and head back over the bridge in the pedestrian lane. Runners make a sharp left off the bridge onto Moody Lane and turn left into Betty Steflick Park. You will then get on the boardwalk that takes you to S Flagler Ave at the library. You will take Flagler Ave to S 2nd, turning right to head to the finish. *I am going to ask about marking the course with spray chalk ahead of time.
RSVP on the event page on facebook to keep up with ongoing updates!
REGISTRATION CLOSES 12/1 at 11:59a.
Finisher medals to ALL runners: GLOW IN THE DARK
Soft gender specific shirts to ALL runners: GLOW IN THE DARK
Do I have to run it at a specific time on December 12th? Nope, you can run it anytime that day or night.
When will I receive my shirt and medal? I am closing registration on December 1st so I can order shirts and medals asap. Once I have everything in hand they will be shipped out. I will likely do a local pick up also. Medals take the longest, usually about 30 days. It is bummer not to get the medals and shirts right away, but it's very difficult to order months in advance without knowing registration numbers.
Are roads closed for the virtual run? NO! You must use common sense and be safe while running the virtual 5k, either the actual course or wherever you choose to run. Follow all traffic and pedestrian laws. Saving a couple of seconds to run in front of traffic is not worth it!
