Description
What is a virtual 5K?
On Memorial Day weekend (May 28-31, 2021), run, walk, or move in any way you see fit for 3.1 miles. You can do this on a treadmill or outside, close to home or somewhere with friends . . . Just get moving! Let us know you’re joining us by tagging us on social media @UFSurgery #UFrunglobal
Who does this support?
This race supports the UF Global Surgery and Health Equity Program. Our mission is to train the next generation of surgical leaders who understand that health equity and access to surgical care are a global public health priority. By educating medical students, residents, and surgeons at home and abroad, we aim to improve sustainable access to safe surgery in resource-limited settings and stimulate awareness to the role of poverty and social determinants of health in all settings. Specific projects include international rotations for UF surgery residents and medical students, observership opportunities for international surgical trainees, global surgery research, and the development of a global surgery and health equity track for our residents.
Who are our special partners?
Register at our highest tier, and receive a race t-shirt AND a limited-supply kitenge fabric scrub cap—handmade through the Nyamirambo Women’s Center in Kigali, Rwanda. The NWC provides education and vocation-training for women with limited resources and works to address gender-based violence, gender inequality and discrimination at a local level.
