Welcome to the 2024 SJC Kids Tri –
We are very excited to host this event at the Solomon Calhoun Center, at 1300 Duval St., St. Augustine, FL 32084.
Plan to park in the parking area between the baseball fields and Osceola Rd., look for the signs as you arrive. You should arrive between 7:15 am and 7:40 am to find parking and come to the registration tent located at the front of the facility. ALL ROADS CLOSEST TO THE FACILITY WILL BE CLOSED AT 7:45 AM. PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE.
Opening ceremony start at 7:55 am. We will discuss the course and activities during the opening ceremony.
Your athlete should be wearing a bathing suit when they arrive.
You should also bring, for each athlete:
Bicycle (no training wheels)
bicycle helmet (required)
shirt (which you will pin their racing number on)
socks
running shoes
a towel
optional: swimming goggles and a swim cap
You'll bring all those items to the registration tent.
You will be directed to walk the bicycle to the bike drop-off area in the pool parking lot. Kids must be able to recognize their bike when they run to them so they grab the correct bike - You may want to reinforce this with a label with athlete’s name on their bike. Leave the helmet with the bike.
Following the opening ceremony, kids will be lined up in the gym according to their racing number. The bib numbers are 1-100 with youngest kids with the lowest numbers. We will be using 6 lanes of the pool. So number 1 is in first, 2 is second etc. Regarding swim distances - kids ages 6,7,8 will go up and back in the pool (2 lengths) then exit pool, ages 9,10,11 will go 4 lengths of pool, ages 12,13,14 will go 6 lengths of pool.
After exiting the pool athletes will go to the picnic table where their shirts (with bib pinned on front), towels, socks and shoes are located. They will towel off, put on socks and shoes, and put on shirt with bib pinned on front. They will then proceed to outside pool gate and run to their bikes.
They will run to their bikes, put on their helmet, and bike the biking loop which will be marked.
After the completed loop - they will drop off their bike and helmet at the bike drop-off area (near the playground).
Kids will then run a marked loop around the 4 baseball fields. Kids 6,7,8 years old will run the loop a single time. Kids 9,10,11 will run that loop going under the arch 2 times, kids ages 12,13, 14 will run that loop 3 times and under the arch 3 times. The finish time will not record unless they go under the arch the correct number of times. Kids must be wearing the bibs on the front of their shirts to receive a time.
