MELISSA'S RACE 2021 - YOUR WAY: LIVE or VIRTUAL 

 

SAME GREAT RACE! GREAT MEDAL! GREAT CAUSE!

The 6th Annual Melissa's Race to Battle Brain Cancer is SO much more than another 5K.

This event is a FUNDRAISER benefiting ADVENT HEALTH CANCER INSTITUTE for brain cancer research. This event is in memory of Melissa Vosburg, a resident of Sanford and teacher at Midway Elementary School, who was lost to brain cancer in 2013. Hosted by Melissa Vosburg, Inc.

Melissa’s Race is known as the race with a heart.  Thank you from the bottom of OUR hearts for helping make this year’s race the biggest and best ever!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OUR LIVE EVENT:
As of December 15, 2020, we have a permit approval to have a LIVE, IN PERSON race through downtown Sanford. All participants will be asked to wear a face covering while not on the course and all participants are required to electronically sign the waiver at time of registration accepting any and all risks if exposed to COVID-19.  We will also have separate start and finish lines with waves every 5 minutes each limited to 50 participants.  Therefore, onsite Registration has a capacity of 650.  If for any reason the LIVE event is canceled, all registered participants will be automatically switch to VIRTUAL with no refunds (sorry).  

We are also offering a VIRTUAL option for those who cannot or choose not to attend IN PERSON. 

Due to COVID restrictions, there will NOT be registration on race day!  Advanced registration required!  

Youth Pricing

Registrants aged 14 and under can participate at a discount.

The Youth 5K price is $15. This will be priced automatically based on the age of the participant. 

HEALTH AND WELLNESS CHECKS AND GENERAL POLICIES

  • All participants are required to wear a mask pre and post event.  Wear your mask until race start, while running a mask is not required.  Carry the mask with you and put it on post-race.  Thank you for your understanding of these preventative measures.
  • Social distancing should always be maintained during the event.  Please stay at least 6 feet away from other participants.
  • Staff and volunteers will be required to wear masks during the event.
  • Spectators are not allowed at our events until further notice.   Spectators who must accompany a minor or a runner needing assistance must stay a safe distance from the event activity and are required to wear a mask. 
  • Hand wash and sanitizing stations will be easily accessible and spread throughout the event area.
  • The staff reserves the right to ask anyone to leave the event that is not adhering to these COVID policies.
  • Anyone exhibiting symptoms will be asked to leave the event.

HYDRATION AND REFRESHMENTS

  • Participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottle or hydration device.  
  • Water will be provided in single serve water bottles distributed by staff or volunteers wearing PPE. 
  • Post-race refreshments will consist of individually bottled drinks and pre-packaged products such as nutrition bars; fruits may include bananas and/or oranges.  Refreshments will be handed out by staff or volunteers wearing PPE with masks and gloves.
  • All staff, volunteers, sponsors and vendors will wear masks, and anyone handling food or drinks will wear gloves. 

SIGNAGE

  • Advance communication and extensive signage will be used to support safe and proper physical and social distancing.

PHYSICAL DISTANCING / EVENT CAPACITIES 

  • Physical distancing will be maximized in runner-only areas, including but not limited to packet pick-up, portable restroom lines, race start, aid stations, finish and post-race food and activity. 6 foot social distancing standards will be followed.
  • Melissa's Race will limit participant capacities and prohibit spectators to assure local event size restrictions are not exceeded.  Capacity information is indicated on each event web page and subject to change based on local guidelines.
  • Please note that spectators are not allowed at our events until further notice.   Spectators who must accompany a minor or a runner needing assistance must stay a safe distance from the event activity and are required to wear a mask.
  • Melissa's Race will temporarily suspend the bag drop / gear check for now to minimize the contact and exchange of personal items. This includes on the course as well as at the pre and post-race area.

START LINE

  • Melissa's Race will implement multiple wave starts with participants staged per wave and a rolling start line with chip timing – leaving the start line open for 5 minutes

In addition to a great cause - brain cancer research - Melissa's Race is also competitive!  

Top overall male and female, top masters (>40) male and female and top 3 male and female age groups will receive awards. Age groups include 9 & under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+

Only Live participants are eligible for awards.  

Packet Pickup

All locations are following COVID protocols - masks, physical distancing and regular cleaning. 

  • Thursday, April 22 from 10-7 at Front Running Sports, Lake Mary

  • Friday, April 23 from 10-5 at Deviant Wolfe Brewing, Sanford

Create or Join a Team

To create a team: Begin registration process and select "Create a Team" when prompted. You can also create your team as a fundraising team by selecting "Yes" when asked.

To join a team, begin registration process and select "Join a Team" when prompted. Choose the team you wish to join from the drop down menu.  

Your team will automatically be setup as a Fundraising team.  As an added incentive, your fundraising will enter you into a drawing for a Team prize.
