Description
Tree Frog 10 K and Half Marathon March 8, 2015
Tree Frog 10K and Half Marathon take place mostly on the Blue Trails in the St Sebastian River Preserve State Park. Both courses are loop trails that will pass through diverse ecosystems on trails that are lined by long leaf pine, old oak trees and fringed by tall prairie grasses. Runners may spot bald eagle, scrub jay, deer, and tortoise and maybe bob cat. A Florida Outdoor Center is a nonprofit committed to getting more people outdoors and active by providing events such as the Tree Frog 10K and Half Marathon and the Wild Sebastian 100. Proceeds from these events fund Adventure Camps for children and the Junior Guide Program.
The 10K course follows the hard packed road past Tree Frog Camp and out past grazing fields of cattle – some are historic breeds from the pioneer times of Florida’s early cow hunting days. The course then enters into saw palmetto and pine forest and the trail becomes more narrow and sometimes challenging but always beautiful, after emerging from the forest to grassy prairie the trail passes Ranch Camp before finishing at the Bunkhouse.
The Half Marathon course follows the Blue Trail from the Bunk House out across to Alligator Link, pass the Mullet Camp parking area, straight out to Sebastian Point, out to Eagle Link- through some old hard wood hammock with moss draped old oak trees on to Tree Frog Trail and out to Ranch Camp before finishing at the Bunk House.
First Place overall male and female in the 10K and Half Marathon will win a FREE Entry into the Wild Sebastian 100 event happening April 11th/12th. This is an Ultra Trail Marathon event where the runners will compete in 25, 50, 75 or 100 mile events. More about this event under www.wildsebastian.com
