Description

We tried, but there was no running from it. Out of an abundance of caution, the 7th annual CMSAF James C. Binnicker Memorial Run in Shalimar, FL has been moved to a VIRTUAL event. Those currently registered for the in-person event will be switched to the virtual event. All virtual event participants will receive an official event shirt, commemorative challenge coin, bib, and access to a printable event certificate. Swag will begin shipping after September 8.

Participants will have from September 15-25 to complete their run or walk. You can share your results and photos by logging into your runsignup.com account. Results will be viewable here beginning September 15.

Be sure to join our Facebook group – The Dash – to keep up with other runners and engage in some friendly competition.

Race at Your Base Events
JBSA Lackland, Columbus AFB, MacDill AFB, JB Pearl Harbor-Hickam, and Hollomon AFB have changed their in-person events to VIRTUAL events. All other Race at Your Base events are currently in-person events. The first 50 9K/5K participants of Race at Your Base events will receive an official event shirt, commemorative challenge coin, and bib.

It's about much more than running.

Supporting "Care for Alzheimer's"
Because September is World Alzheimer’s Month, the CMSAF James C. Binnicker Memorial Run will benefit the memory care wing at Air Force Enlisted Village's assisted living residence, Hawthorn House, where military widows with Alzheimer’s and dementia reside. Every dollar raised from this virtual event will provide care and support for the residents there. We feel this would make CMSAF#9 Binnicker proud.

Go the Extra Mile
The world has changed for all of us, but the one thing that hasn’t changed is our commitment to our residents. We need your help more than ever. We ask for your help by creating a fundraiser in conjunction with your run or walk. We call it the Extra Mile Challenge, and we’ll reward the top three fundraisers.

Every dollar you raise will provide care and support for military widows who live on our memory care wing at our assisted living residence, Hawthorn House.

Event History
The inaugural CMSAF James C. Binnicker Memorial 9K was held in August of 2015 at Bob Hope Village in Shalimar, Florida. The idea for the event was suggested by Airmen from nearby Eglin AFB who were participating in the Air Force Marathon. The Airmen wanted to honor CMSAF Binnicker while training for their upcoming marathon. Since CMSAF Binnicker served as the 9th Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, it was only fitting the event was a 9K run. The event has expanded over the years to include a 5K run, a 5K walk, a virtual run, and an in-person run coordinated by Airmen from Travis AFB and Beale AFB (California).

About CMSAF Binnicker
CMSAF#9 James C. Binnicker served as the Air Force Enlisted Village's President and CEO from 2000 to 2015. Binnicker believed the residents should be treated with respect and dignity. He created The Mom Rule which all employees use to this day in working with residents or making decisions for resident' cares. Binnicker's vision brought many additions to the Bob Hope Village campus to include the Garden of Hope, the Bob Gates Welcome Center, and Hawthorn House, an assisted living residence with an option for memory care for residents with Alzheimer's and dementia. Binnicker served as the 9th Chief Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force from 1986 to 1990. Read more about Binnicker here.
