New Date: October 9, 2021
Due to the Corona Virus outbreak, we have rescheduled the Palace Saloon 5K to October 9, 2021. Please review your options, and we hope to see you on October 9.
This a point-to-point race. While the finish line takes place at the Palace Saloon, parking, and the race start are at the James Messer Sports Complex,. Program your GPS to 2800 Jackson Bluff Rd. for the Start and for Public Parking (free) at Messer Field. There is no public parking at the finish.
THERE IS NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION. Race bibs and shirts that were preordered online are available for race day morning pickup beginning at 7:45 am at the start line location.
Because there is no Race Day registration you must register online before midnight on Friday, October 8. If you prefer paper registration, then come to the early registration/ packet pickup at the Palace Saloon on Thursday, October 7, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and you can register via paper registration, pay, and pick up a shirt (if desired), at that time. Be mindful that race shirts are ordered about 10 days in advance. We always order extra shirts for volunteers and last-minute runners, but late decisions risk not getting your preferred shirt size. In other words, register early if you want a guaranteed shirt size.
Runners will be required to have their temperature checked and verbally asked a series of risk assessment questions. Individuals with a temperature of 100 degrees or more will not be allowed to race. Individuals who provide concerning verbal responses to the risk assessment questions will be directed to the Race Director and Medical Director to discuss the individual’s response(s). A decision will be made at that time as to whether the individual may participate. A decision of the Medical Director or the Race Director that someone should not be allowed to participate will be final. Individuals who are not allowed to race may receive a refund of their fee and/or a deferral to next year’s race. This would be the same for runners unable to race due to pre-race screening responses. Risk
Assessment Questions Include:
Once the runner has passed both the temperature check and risk assessment, volunteers will direct runners who did not attend the pre-race packet pickup to a socially-distanced packet pick up. Hand sanitizer stations will be located throughout the check in process. Runners will be provided a sticker to be placed on the front of their bib, indicating that they have gone through the race day protocols of having their temperature checked and do not have any concerning responses to the risk assessment questions. Only runners who have this sticker on their bib will be allowed on the starting line of the race.
Runners are strongly encouraged to wear a face mask prior to race start and to properly socially distance from individuals that are not in the same household. Spectators are also strongly encouraged to wear a mask and/or socially distance themselves.
Wave Starts & Aid Stations:
Runners will be assigned to a wave. Waves will consist of five participants, and race numbers will be sequentially assigned. Only those assigned to a given wave will be allowed to start with that wave. Wave switches are not allowed. Your assigned wave number will be printed on the back of your race bib. Racers are advised not to run next to one another during the race unless they are in the process of passing a runner. The term "wave" is for organizational purposes, and racers will not be required to stand near each other or congregate in an unsafe manner.
Racers are advised to self-support for food and nutrition; however, aid stations will be provisioned with cups pre-filled and set on tables by volunteers wearing masks and gloves. There will be a volunteer nearby to restock the aid station if needed and to remind runners not to congregate.
Custom beer mugs & monetary awards (CASH) will be presented to:
All awards are donated by Gulf Winds Track Club.
Team registration deadline is Thursday, October 7, at the close of early packet pick-up. Ideally, this needs to be the last opportunity to change a team roster….but we can be somewhat flexible with that deadline…with enough notice to enter the team into the database.
The other great benefit of running this local race is contributing to a couple of great charities. We are supporting the Parkinson's Foundation Rock Steady Boxing program and Javacya Arts Conservatory. Please donate generously.
The 46th Annual Palace Saloon 5K is sponsored by Gulf Winds Track Club, a completely non-profit, volunteer-led organization. All proceeds from the races support dozens of charitable organizations in our community. The race always needs volunteers. Free race shirt for helping.
