Description

Promise In Brevard (PROMISE) and the Brevard Nature Alliance (BNA) are partnering during the 16th Annual Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival (SCBWF)to promote awareness of individuals with special needs throughout Brevard County. Promise In Brevard is a non-profit organization whose mission is to create an inclusive housing development in West Melbourne - where young adults with special needs can live a life full of opportunities and freedom never thought possible.

On Sunday, January 26, 2014 – Promise will hold their Second Annual Scrub Jay 5K Fun Run/Walk and Duathlon. Both races will begin at the Brevard County Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville. The Scrub Jay 5K Fun Run/Walk will take place within the park and is open to all. The Duathlon will be a USAT sanctioned event that begins at the park with a 5K run, 12 mile bike ride through the City of Titusville and end with a 5K run at the park. The timing and scoring will be provided by Race Smith, Inc. Running Zone will provide run course support and Revolutions Cyclery will provide bike course support.

Race Timeline:
•Friday, January 24th: Packet pickup at Running Zone, 3696 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, FL 32935 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
•Saturday, January 25th: Packet Pickup at BCC Auditorium off US-1, Titusville Campus from 12:00 noon – 4:00 p.m.
•• Sunday, January 26th: Packet Pickup and Day-Of Registration, Body Marking and Participant Transition Area for Duathlon Opens at 6:30 a.m. Transition Area Closes and Race Directions Given at Start Line 8:15 a.m.
•Start times: 5K Run/Walk – 7:30 am, Sprint Duathlon – 8:30 a.m.

This a wonderful opportunity for SCBWF to partner with PROMISE in a mutual effort to raise awareness of those individuals in our community with special needs and to promote accessibility no matter what their ability.
