Description
Christmas at the Track 6 Hour
Join us this Christmas for a 6 Hour Ultra Run around the Track. Run as many (or as few) loops as you like. The 6 Hour Ultra will start at 3PM and end at 9PM. Midway through the race, the sun will start to set and the track will be filled with Christmas Lights around the track!
5k
Not sure about 6 Hours but still want to run this fun and unique event? The 5K option is for you! Here you will complete 12 laps in lanes 3/4 for 3.1Miles. This race will have a rolling start, and runners can start the 5K any time between 4 and 7PM, depending on if they want to run in daylight or with the lights. 5K will be over by 8PM and awards will be distributed at that time. The time to start your race is up to you, but must begin in the 4-7PM window.
Who Are We
This race will be hosted by Broken Runners and the team behind Brokentrack. Unlike Brokentrack - a hot, miserable June track ultra - Christmas at the Track should offer up great weather and greater fun! Timing will be brought to you by Durtiming. The race will be held at a fast rubberized track in Venice, Florida and the use is courtesy of The Haven, a great organization we are happy to partner with!
Race Details
1. Personal Aid Stations: You can set up a canopy on the inside of the track. Feel free to decorate it and have it lit for the night portion of the event!
2. Race Aid Station: We will have Chef Justin (Gadget Guy) running the Elves Pit Stop where he will be cooking up some awesome warm food. Expect quesadillas, pork, bacon, and we will of course have your normal ultra food snacks and sodas and plenty of Christmas staples, but mostly just a lot of cookies :)
3. Direction Change: Runners will change direction one time during the race, at the midway point 3 hours in.
4. Runners will be credited for .25 Miles per lap completed. Your watch will most likely show you doing 1-2 miles more than this due to the nature of track running. Please expect your watch mileage to be higher than your track mileage!
5. Courtesy Rules: All runners have the right to the inside lane, yes even "slow" runners. You're fast, congratulations. It's your duty to run around other runners safely! If you are in the inside of lane 1, stay as far inside as possible so other runners may pass you also while utilizing lane 1. In other words don't run in the middle of lane 1. Finally, since runners will need to be able to easily pass other runs, please do not buddy up and run/walk side by side in the inside lanes and create a wall. Running should be done single file. If you need to buddy up, please take it to an outside lane (5 or 6).
Lighting: While we plan to light up the track as much as possible, please not that runners should be prepared to carry or have lights on them for the night portion of the race. We don't want runners colliding with other runners after all. This could be a headlamp or handheld light. Shoe lights are cool, or if you want to decorate yourself in Christmas lights even better!
Swag, Awards, Etc
Soft comfortable shirts for all runners, a finishers medal/ornament for all runners, tons of food, and some Christmas Giveaways are in the works. And expect some challenges during the race to earn a gift from under the Christmas tree (fastest first lap? Best dressed/most festive?). And of course, hopefully, a pretty cool looking Christmas Course with lots of decorati
