Parking is at the Middle River Park Parking Lot
From Route 1 in Machias, across the street from Helen’s Restaurant, turn onto Kilton Lane. Cross over the Sunrise Trail and immediately turn left. Take the second right and park in the lot at the top of the hill. The trails begin atop the field. Hand-carry boat access is available below the end of the parking area.
Nope! Beginners are welcome—walking is encouraged, and the course is designed to be fun for all levels.
Snowshoes are required. Bring your own if you have them; limited loaner pairs may be available (check event details/registration page).
Recreational or running snowshoes are both fine. Anything that fits securely and feels comfortable is a good choice.
Dress in layers but be prepared to peel off layers: a wicking base layer, warm mid-layer, and a wind/water-resistant outer layer are recommended. Warm socks, gloves/mittens, and a hat are recommended. You'll be ready to peel them off after a few minutes of high intensity snowshoe running!
We’ll adapt to conditions. If snow coverage is low, the event may switch to a “winter trail 5K” format—updates will be shared via email/social.
In the event of Inclement weather; the event may be cancelled. No alternative date is planned.
Yes! This event is part of the Downeast Coastal Conservancy Winter Family Fun Day, with additional winter activities to enjoy after!
We are offering a 5k course and 1 mile course for all abilities.
