Description
Early on the morning of May 10, 1865, Confederate President Jefferson Davis was captured at his camp outside Irwinville by a detachment of the Fourth Michigan Calvary, who had pursued him into the heart of the Deep South. Davis had spent the evening of May 8, in Abbeville, a distance of almost exactly 26.2 miles from where he was captured. To commemorate this historic event, the counties and communities along the route will host the Annual Chasing Jefferson Davis Marathon on April 15, 2023.

Course
The race is a point to point and runs through the counties of Irwin, Ben Hill and Wilcox. Parking will be available at the start and finish. Shuttle busses will begin running 3 hours after the start of the races. Busses will cease at 2:00 PM. The Marathon is USATF Certified #GA15012WC.

Race Details
EARLY PACKET PICKUP AND REGISTRATION
Early packet pickup and registration will be held on 4/12/2024 at Abbeville Historic Gymnasium, 300 College St., Abbeville, GA from 6PM to 8PM. Contact 229-467-2737 for more information.
RACE DAY
The Full Marathon starts at the Abbeville Historic Gymnasium, 300 College St., Abbeville, GA and the Half Marathon starts at 1018 Salem Church Rd, Fitzgerald, GA. Both races will end at 338 Jeff Davis Park Road, Irwinville GA.
Registration begins at 5:00 AM at the Abbeville Historic Gymnasium
The full marathon will start with a cannon blast at 6:00 AM near the Gymnasium.
The half marathon will start at 6:30 AM near 1018 Salem Church Road, Fitzgerald , GA. It is about a 20 minute drive to this location from the Historic Gymnasium in Abbeville. Plan accordingly!
Awards
Awards for Overall M & F, Masters M & F, and top 3 M & F in each age group: 19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75 & over. Everyone who finishes the Marathon will get a commemorative medal.
