Description
The Spring Into Action 5K Run/Walk is a 5K organized by the Mercer University's Masters of Public Health program as a fundraiser. This 5K Run/Walk is to support the National Office of Delta Omega Honorary Society of Public Health and the School of Public Health at the University of Puerto Rico with their hurricane recovery fundraiser. You likely know about the devastation in Puerto Rico and recovery remains slow. After four months, less than half the island has power (which is intermittent and unreliable) and it is now predicted that power to the rest of the island will not be restored until summer 2018. This means a lack of internet, cell phones, running water and a myriad of other amenities we take for granted. In many cases, regularly employed individuals cannot work and are dependent on their families and friends for help.
A portion of the funds will be donated to the National Office which will transfer the balance raised to the University of Puerto Rico School of Public Health and the remaining funds will be used to support Mercer University's Masters of Public Health program to plan future events for the community. Come out and support our efforts to help the Puerto Rico Recovery Fundraiser.
