Description
Teamwork. Adventure. Endurance. Challenge. This is SwimRun. It started as a bet in 2002 and grew into the now famous Öttilö race series. It is an endurance event completed in teams of two. Participants will alternate between overland runs and open water swims all while staying within 10-meters of their partner. The inagural 2017 Swim Run Georgia course will consist of a series of alternating overland routes and swim legs around Red Top Mountain. Two courses will be offered for teams of two: Short Course (2-3 miles swimming, 4-6 miles running) and Long Course (3-4 miles swimming, 10-13 miles running).
Teams of two must apply for the race. When applying and paying, the charge will be made on one account. Team members should make payment arrangements.
Please consider if the Long or Short Course option is right for you and be honest about your open water swimming skills. You must be a competent swimmer with sighting skills and the ability to locate landing zones that may not be immediately apparent on an opposite shore.
Time limits will be imposed at two checkpoints along the course that must be reached before the time cut off. Failure to reach the checkpoints within the allotted timeframe will result in a DQ and mandatory return to the finish line.
Wetsuits covering the full torso and upper thighs at a minimum are MANDATORY.
Clinics will be offered prior to race day to familiarize you with the course and help you feel more comfortable in the dynamic open water swim/run environment.
Hopefuls are encouraged to visit the official OTILLO website and the Official Film: OTILLO 2015 The Swimrun World Championship to learn more about this challenging event and gain insight on optimal gear selection.
SwimRun Georgia is produced by Endurance Fitness Adventures LLC.
Race Approval Process
SwimRun participants must apply and be approved based on race background. Once each team is approved, the team will be added to the approved race 'loyalty list,' and sent an email with the official race registration link. Applicants acknowledge and understand that an adventure/endurance event comprised of multiple and alternating transits of varied terrain and open water swims may present unique and unexpected hazards outside the control of race organizers, local governments and private property owners whose property the course may utilize.
