Description
On July 22, 2012, Michael D. Kennedy Jr. was killed by a Drunk Driver. It was a day none of us will ever forget. The day I lost my first born son, no parent should ever have to bury their child, especially by such an avoidable and irresponsible act. Normally during this time each year, my family and friends have gathered for a FUN filled weekend of tears and laughter as we run, walk, and share memories during the Mercedes Benz 5K. This year COVID 19 has taken away the ability for us to safely gather together for this event. However, it has not taken away our love and desire to honor Michael, support MADD Georgia, and save lives! I am inviting you all to walk, run, and laugh with me and my family virtually this year. In honor of Michael D. Kennedy Jr, and so many other victims, we will be raising money to save lives and to help victims. Although Michael is no longer with us, I refuse to allow his death to be in vain. Michael was only 19 years old, full of life, and full of potential. Sadly, another family experiences the devastating effects of drunk driving every nine minutes, and one in three people will be involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lifetime. My goal is to build a legacy for Michael, to use my pain to raise awareness and to save lives. To do everything in my power to make sure that no other family is affected by the tragedy of drunk driving. No more offenders, no more VICTIMS, no more mothers burying their children. Then my son’s death would not be in vain. Help me save lives! We will not allow COVID 19 to stop us from keeping our roads safe, our efforts are needed now more than ever! I am asking everyone to take some time over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend while your together with your families, to walk or run, laugh, and share memories. You can walk or run around your neighborhoods, at a park, or just take a stroll in your backyard. The point is to use this time talk about the affects of Drunk Driving, make a plan for members of your families, especially our younger generation, so if they decide to drink they can do so responsibly. Take photos and send them, so we can make a virtual run video and wear your past Team MDK shirts if you have one. I have designated the weekend of Nov 26 - 29 for walking/running. Registration will be open now thru Sunday Nov 29th.
Registration for adults is $30. If you cannot walk or run you can just make a donation to the cause. The smallest amount will help! Together we make a difference. I am an Advisory Committee Member, Advocate, and Volunteer for MADD Georgia. Proceeds will be donated to MADD Georgia for Team MDK in memory of Michael D Kennedy Jr.
