New Salem Baptist Church (NSBC) and the Active Faith Ministry  would like to welcome you to join our Spring Into Service 5k event in support of the Christian Women's Center (CWC)! New Salem Baptist Church is located in Griffin and has many community service opportunities throughout the city of Griffin. Our Active Faith Ministry is honored to have the opportunity to bring the community together to share the Gospel of Jesus and to support the ongoing community support and engagement efforts of the CWC. The Christian Women's Center W.O.W. program is a 12 month discipleship program that offers refuge to women in crisis believing these women can be restored to physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being through the love of Jesus Christ. The crisis can be related to abuse, prostitution, neglect, homelessness, or any combination resulting from drug or alcohol addiction. The CWC helps women achieve life change by demonstrating to them the love of Christ through unconditional love and acceptance. The program provides one-on-one biblical counseling, group addiction counseling, career readiness classes, health screenings, parenting instruction, life skills, Bible studies, opportunities to volunteer, wellness education/ exercise, and partnerships with community services for their residents. The acronym W.O.W. stands for Women of the Well and refers to the story of how Jesus met a woman at Jacob's well in John 4:4-30. Residents in this program live in a dormitory style setting for 12 months. There is no charge for this program. This organization is funded solely by proceeds from the CWC thrift store in Griffin, Georgia as well as donations and monthly support from business, individuals, families, churches, grants, and civic organizations. Let’s make a big impact in our community and support the efforts of the Christian Women's Center!  Our goal is to raise as much money as possible for this event. All proceeds above and beyond race expenses will be given directly to CWC. Please use the donate button at registration to add any amount to your registration to further support the W.O.W. program at the CWC. 

More details:

This event will be a 5k distance (3.1 miles). As we are wanting every dollar possible to go directly to Christian Women's Center this race will not be chip timed. We will have a gun start and will have a timing crew recording all finisher’s times and recording race results. We will have an age group award ceremony and winners will receive a medal. All registrants will receive a race T-shirt designed and printed by J-Max graphics (be sure to sign up by the shirt deadline to guarantee a shirt), race bib, course support, and post race hot breakfast. Breakfast will be lovingly donated and prepared by New Salem Baptist Church! 

Having a fun and safe race is a priority. We will have support from Griffin PD and our New Salem Baptist Church volunteers. The course will be well marked and volunteers will be along the route to cheer you on and make sure you know where all the turns are located. There will be one water station about halfway through the course. We will warm up all the walkers/ runners with sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, prayer, opening remarks/ instructions, and praise music starting at 7:40 AM. Race starts at 8:00 AM sharp. Runners, walkers, and strollers are welcome! Any minor child running / walking the race on their own and not in a stroller should register for the event and be accompanied and monitored by an adult. We respectfully request pets be leashed and well trained. Owners are responsible for controlling their pet and keeping them and others safe. 

Age Group Awards for male and female racers:

Overall Winner and Overall Master Winner (age 40+), 9 and under, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+. 

Ghost runners will be able to submit by email their virtual race times and will be included in the final race results in their own category. Virtual results will not be eligible for race day awards.

Disclaimers:

There is a T-shirt deadline for this race. Anyone registering after March 27th at 11:59 PM will not be guaranteed a T-shirt. Online registration will continue until 7:45 AM on race day. Race Day registration will also accept cash or check.  This is a rain or shine event. No refunds will be issued due to inclement weather. If the race is unable to be safely held due to weather or other unforeseen emergency the event will become virtual and registrants will email  their 5K times to NSBCactivefaithministry@gmail.com by Monday April 15, 2024 at 11:59PM to have their results included in the official race results. If the event goes fully virtual all submitted results will be considered for age group awards. This is an open road course. All participants are ultimately responsible for their own safety and well being during the event.
