Special K's Information

Dear Participants:

For over 30 years, Special K's has provided competition and training for athletes with special needs in north Fulton and the surrounding areas.  Special K's is a local agency of Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA).  Based in Johns Creek, Special K's continues to be the reigning Agency of the Year for SOGA (out of over 200 agencies).  It serves over 100 athletes with disabilities.

Special K's athletes participate in a variety of sports...basketball, bocce, bowling, cheerleading, cycling, flag football, kayaking, long distance running, swimming, and track.  In the next year we hope to offer pickleball and Topgolf to our athletes.  Many of these sports are also unified, meaning traditional Special Olympic athletes team with peers without disabilities.  Inclusion, fun, and fitness are the focus of all of our efforts.  While athletes enjoy the competition, the social opportunities and friendships are what drive interest and keep our programs thriving.  Athletes and families are also drawn to an amazing group of volunteer coaches.

Games fees, equipment costs, uniforms, facility rentals...just a few of the costs incurred by our agency to provide outstanding programming to our Special K's Superstars. Since Special K's is unaffiliated with a city or county, our funds come solely from fundraising and the generosity of donors.  Support from the race in Sugar Mill will make a huge impact.  A $20 donation sends one track athlete speeding down the lane. $200 allows a whole flag football squad to take on opponents at state competition.   Thank you in advance for your participation and the difference you will make with your giving.

Special K Athletes and Accomplishments

Huge shout out to Special K's Superstar Erik Phillipeck for taking home Special Olympics Georgia's Male Athlete of the Year! Erik is an all season guy representing NFU soccer, cycling in the Fall and basketball in the Winter.

Not only did Erik have an amazing year, this Superstar has had an incredible Special Olympics career. He was member of the first Special K's soccer program back in 2016. Erik was part of unified squad representing Georgia at the 2018 USA Games in Seattle, leading the state delegation into the stadium with the big Georgia sign (see below).

Erik also inspired Special K's in starting a new sport, cycling. He's been a medal winning machine on the bike. He tackles the longest distances with determination and effort. Erik has proven effective at recruiting, with the team doubling in size this past year!

Much love and congratulations from your Special K's Family Erik! We're all so proud of you! Your effort in competition is impressive but surpassed by a smile and positive attitude that remains undefeated.
