Description

The Currahee Challenge takes place from the base of Currahee Mountain on the Colonel Robert Sink Trail, the training site of the 501st, 506th, 511th and 517th Parachute Infantry Regiments seen in Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan & The Dirty Dozen.  Come and join us for an excellent and challenging 5K run/walk or 10K hill run.  PLEASE NOTE:  the finish line will remain open until 11:30am.

Currahee Military Museum

This year the Currahee Challenge is sponsored by the Currahee Military Museum.  The Stephens Co. Historical Society Office, Currahee Military Museum, and Stephens Co. History Museum are all located in the newly-renovated Train Depot in historical downtown Toccoa, GA, where paratroopers first arrived in town by train before walking to the camp to begin their training.  NEED SOME CURRAHEE GEAR?  Come visit our shop or find your favorite items.  

Currahee Military Museum is located in Historic Downtown Toccoa at 160 Alexander Street, Toccoa, GA 30577.  Make sure to plan a visit to the museum while in Toccoa!

Registration Fees and Information

Event: 5K Run/Walk

This is a challenging up hill / down hill course on an unpaved access road. Turn around for the 5K is approximately halfway to the top of the mountain. All walkers are encouraged to register for the 5K event.

Registration Limit: 280 spots left.
Price: $30.00 Race Fee + $3.44 SignUp Fee
Registration: Price increases to $35.00 after September 13, 2024 at 11:59pm EDT

 

Event: 10K Run

This is a challenging up hill / down hill course on an unpaved access road. The last half mile before the top is especially steep. Turn around for the 10K is at the historic marked which will be up at the turnaround point.

PLEASE NOTE: the finish line will remain open until 11:30am. All walkers are encouraged to register for the 5K event.

Registration this year is capped at 280 for a total number of participants.  This is 280 spots available for the combined 5K and 10K, SO REGISTER EARLY!  If registration reaches the cap before October 7, 2023 there will be NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION!

7:00AM    Race day registration (if available) and Packet PickUp

8:00AM    Currahee Challenge 5K

9:00AM    Chrrahee Challenge 10K  (finish line will remain open until 11:30am)

 

Course

Both the 5K and 10K are very strenuous courses.  The start and finish line for both races is on Ayersville Road near the Currahee Memorial.   The 5K runs approximately halfway up Currahee Mountain to the water stop and turns around. The 10K last half mile is especially steep.  The turnaround for the 10K is at the historic elevation marker as seen on the right.  This marker will be sitting on a table near the top of the mountain.

It is recommended that all 10K runners can complete the run in a 2-hour time frame.  It is also recommended that all walkers register for the 5K event.

Awards

Medals presented for both the 5K and 10K  to overall male/female, masters male/female and top three in 10-year age groups, 1st, 2nd and 3rd, starting at 10 & under through 80 & over.

The Currahee Challenge 5K/10K  is proud to be a member of the Black Bag Race Series.

Finishline management and timing provided by Classic Race Services.

What if it Rains?

We get wet!  Race start time may be delayed in 15-minute increments if storms are in the area.
