The 5k Route:
The 5k is also a mixed terrain route. You will start on asphalt, run through gravel lot, then hit a paved trail (with dirt available on the side). At about the mile mark, you will turn onto a well-traveled forest road, dirt with some gravel and perhaps washboard. This road is open to traffic, so please stay to the left so that you can face traffic.
At 1.55 miles you will see the turnaround marker and the Water Station. As you turnaround, continue staying on your left and retrace your steps.
The “out” portion rolls gently uphill with some steep downhill portions, while the “back” portion includes the rolls and finishes with a swift and smooth drop to the finish line.
Racing Advice: Enjoy the rolling uphill and gentle turns for the first mile, manage your footing on the dirt-road out-and-back, and let 'er rip on the downhill last mile to the finish!
Safety Advice: The National Forest Service does not close the roadways, so please be mindful of traffic that may be on the route. Stay to the inside of the roadway.
Stroller Advice: If running with a stroller, be sure to keep the safety loop attached to your wrist so that you can manage the downhills. Be mindful and courteous of other participants.
