TOWN OF TUSAYAN IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS TO WELCOME VISITORS
Grand Canyon National Park remains accessible during federal government shutdown
TUSAYAN, AZ – October 2, 2025 – During the federal government shutdown, visitors can
continue to enjoy a full range of amenities and essential services within the Town of Tusayan,
located one mile from the south entrance to Grand Canyon National Park. Services include
trails, tours, lodging, restaurants, retail shops, attractions, grocery store, gas station and a
visitor center.
“Now is an ideal time to visit Tusayan, because the weather is great and the lines are short”,
stated Clarinda Vail, Mayor of Tusayan.
Grand Canyon National Park will remain accessible during the federal government shutdown
with some government services temporarily closed, such as some routine park operations,
including the closure of the National Park Visitor Center and the suspension of educational and interpretive programs.
While the majority of park staff are furloughed, Grand Canyon National Park remains
committed to protecting the public and its critical resources. Health and safety services,
including law enforcement, emergency response operations, public restrooms, trash disposal
and road maintenance will remain operational with limited staff to ensure public safety within
accessible areas. During this period of reduced operations, the National Park Service is waiving
the collection of standard park entrance fees.
